"Wisdom allows nothing to be good that will not be so forever; no man to be happy but he that needs no other happiness than what he has within himself; no man to be great or powerful that is not master of himself." - Lucius Annaeus Seneca
@shl@Y10Tax@FranchiseMnA Used withholding estimator and resulted in $0 withholding on the next paycheck. More than that was intended. Turns out 403(b) contribution reduction takes 2 weeks whereas W4 update is immediate. Will run it again next pay statement until I get to $0 adjustments necessary.
There is no “mechanism to get to ground truth”. It is that very misconception that can leads to dogmatism - because if one thinks they’ve found the mechanism and then reached ground truth, well:
“The doctrine that the truth is manifest is the root of all tyranny” - Karl Popper.
It has been an honor to work with on this book for the last two years. Crazy the day has finally come! Feeling all the emotions 🥲❤️🚀. Thankful @erjorgenson took a chance on a kid from Iowa. From being the first to read the manuscript, to rounds of edits, and helping with launch — working on this project has been a blast. I’m proud to call Eric a mentor, and close friend. If you take away one thing from this post, let it be this: read the book. It will change the trajectory of your life in ways you didn’t realize were possible. Thank you for your attention to this matter and happy reading! 😁

"Be of good cheer." Herewith a man who fulfills the gospel admonition with intelligence, humility, and a transcendent valor. BEN SASSE on Uncommon Knowledge. https://t.co/L2Z2axBIEZ
@p_m_robinson Incredible job by Ben and Peter. Thanks for your examples! Stayed for the post credit and was rewarded. Peter almost made it! 🤣 @BenSasse
NYC peeps (in particular):
Writing to ask a favor.
A few days ago, read this Times article about a 28 yr old in NYC, hustling to make a living.
Found his story about starting a small food business during Covid and working as a cleaner all over NYC while helping support his mom admirable.
Reached out to the reporter, who put me in touch with Tyson. We had a call yesterday and, while obviously one call doesn't mean that much, I came away thinking this is a person who deserves better opportunities in life.
Here's my ask:
Are you in a position to offer a job to a smart, personable, hard-working, high school graduate (with some college) who will grab onto that opportunity with both hands?
Would you be willing to take a call with him?
If so, please DM me your email and a sentence or two about you / your organization and I will put you in touch.
Let's see if we can help put this guy on a better life trajectory.

@mbrown_co@Camp4 Let’s hope so! You can lead a horse to water but you can’t make it drink. Better to lead it to water than leave it in the dessert regardless. How can you reach the masses without sullying the message? I think @arthurbrooks is putting on a master class.
@mbrown_co & @Camp4 are delivering in an underserved niche: people wanting material success & needing transcendent success. This content is for people (mostly men who make this mistake) who are attracted to money, power, prestige but suspect it’s a dead end. Keep going! 👏
Mike is a must follow—one of the few guys I’ve met who’s found success across all the dimensions that matter.
(We also do a podcast together called The Inner Circle. Episode 6 drops tomorrow.)
@dvassallo When I try to do something myself I realize how hard it is to do it well. Many steps. Much knowledge required. Then I realize though I will always have complaints about products and services I should be outsourcing as much as possible unless I’m doing it for my own enjoyment.
@lukeburgis@arthurbrooks He’s an incredible communicator. Connected to all kinds of institutions regardless of ideology. Moved column to The Free Press AND became advisor to Bumble around the same time!? Wow
The number of pushups won’t matter until you change how you see yourself.
If you see yourself as a lazy person, you’ll always quit. If you start to change who you are, and become someone who trains and doesn’t give up, that’s what matters.
Identity change requires action. It’s the proof for your mind that you are someone different than it thinks right now.
So start small. Prove to yourself that you’re someone who does 10 pushups and 10 squats right when you wake up every day.
You can grow from there, but first we have to change who you think you are.
