Our ATM 480 Atmospheric Science Fieldwork class has been launching radiosondes as part of the University Coordinated Radiosonde Project. These data will be used for experiments to determine how additional atmospheric measurements can improve winter weather forecasts.
The wildfire smoke from western U.S. and southern Canada has arrived NYS once again affecting much of western NY yesterday and moving downstate today. Good news is they are aloft and are not affecting surface air quality so far.
With the now-confirmed tornado in Buffalo this afternoon, New York has officially broken its record for the most confirmed tornadoes in one year, at 26 tornadoes.

A team of UAlbany students took part in NASA's Nationwide Eclipse Ballooning Project during the total solar eclipse earlier this month and launched weather balloons from within the path of totality to collect and analyze atmospheric data!
