Over two decades ago, I had the great honor of clerking for Justice Sandra Day O’Connor. I wrote this remembrance for those interested in reading it:

Ken Paxton’s acquittal is shocking but not surprising. The way forward for Texas and our country is to bring together people across the political spectrum who are committed to protecting democracy.
Does Tony Buzbee care to address that when Paxton told his staff about the affair “during his hard-fought 2018 re-election campaign” and falsely said it was over, he did so “out of concern that it would become public”? He suppressed it and barely won.

You’ve heard the story about indicted Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton stealing a $1,000 pen from the metal-detector tray at the Collin County Courthouse. But have you seen the video?

@dbryanjones@jamesrhenson@SUR_Texas Don’t take @jamesrhenson’s polls for the @TexasTribune to the bank. I’m surprised he’s citing them here to show how the electorate performed. In 2018, for example, he vastly underestimated support for Beto and me. In my case he was off by 9 points 2 weeks away from the election.
@Nate_Cohn For example, the margin in my race for Texas Attorney General in 2018 (-3.5%) was closer than the margins in the Attorney General races in Florida, Arizona, and Ohio.
@evanasmith I think you mean, “Turns out the race for Texas Attorney General was really close, contrary to conventional wisdom. And we should have covered it more because not only was it close, it’s a really important office and the current occupant is indicted!”
