@RuthTapsell Almost 8 years now. I find the diet enjoyable, satiating, inexpensive and easily sustainable. It has reduced my insulin requirements and greatly assists me to maintain stable blood glucose, despite T1D, which makes everything easier, including work and exercise.
Diabetes team impressed with our son’s A1c of 4.8% today, great growth, excellent academic results, and that he’ll be the school captain next year. What’s not to love about being Bernstein low carb for T1D? We’re on a good thing!
@NathanPabrai This page has links to lots of talks etc on the Bernstein approach, including a talk Julie and I gave some years ago: https://t.co/pePE9ogcqa
Our latest release from 'Low Carb Medicine For Doctors 2019' - Dr. Olivia Rimington outlines her experiences in adopting a low carb approach to manage her Type 1 Diabetes #LCMFD19@OliviaRimington https://t.co/BDBooZhooW
@JakkieTreehorn @MelindaSeedT1D Meat and cheese are popular here too. Huge appetite for bunless burger with extra patties and extra bacon - very gentle on the glucose levels
Critics of managing T1D in children with very low carb warn of adverse effects, so we and our team monitor things closely, just in case. Surprise! Not one negative! Excellent glycaemic control, growth, BMI, lipids, QoL, energy, school, sport, nutrients, relationship with food.
@JakkieTreehorn @MelindaSeedT1D Any hypos are minor, shallow, infrequent and easily corrected with a couple of grams of a glucose tab. Law of small numbers!
@Justin_h_24 I don’t know how they live with themselves; condemning a child to ever increasing insulin usage and its co-morbidities. I await the class action which surely must come in time. Set up to fail! 😡
@ProfTimNoakes Maybe one day! We keep spreading word of his success. Normal blood sugars, great growth, happy and resilient. And we’re all-in as a family.
5 years post my son’s T1D diagnosis. Year 1 was eating how we were told (which made life hard), then 4 years eating very low carb (so much better in all ways). I wonder if those who still insist he should be eating a standard diet ever think “but what if we’re wrong?”.
@livvyinabox I’d love to be Hotel Diabetes for my 11 year old son when he grows up and wants a break. Holiday together, me taking over all the care (especially overnight management). I just need to keep myself well so I can still do it for him when he’s 100 and snowboarding black runs!
@ChristianAssad@DietDoctor1@tednaiman@lowcarbGP My all-time favorite infographic that I use for myself and those to whom I recommend LC diet. I also tell them to choose leaner options from protein group, avoid any added fat and don't snack/IF if they want to get even better results. And lift weights if they want to be gods 😀
@JakeKushnerMD @JimJohnsonSci@ethanjweiss@kevinnbass@Maratosflier @kdinbburg @AmDiabetesAssn Why only adult t1ds get low carb? Low carb for proper development of body and brain for t1d children is essential. Kids go to the front, not back of the line! @Type2CEO
@BackyardBane It has been over 6 years for me using a low carb approach and insulin dosing techniques as described in “Dr Bernstein’s Diabetes Solution” to assist in managing my type 1 diabetes. Here is my 24 hour graph for today.
