The identity of the U.S. Army soldier who lost his life in Iraq on July 18, 2026 has been revealed. Sergeant Michael Swinton was tragically KIA during a controlled detonation of a downed Iranian drone.

His identity was shared by his wife, Mia Gonzalez-Swinton, following official family notifications by the military.

Our American flag has flown over battlefields, hurricanes, terrorist attacks, floods, wildfires, and some of the hardest days this country has ever faced.

Through all of it, one lesson remains true: America's greatest strength has never been a building, a government agency, or a piece of equipment.

It's people.

The neighbors who check on each other. The volunteers who show up. The first responders who run toward danger. The communities that rebuild after disaster strikes.

It is choosing to be someone others can rely on when things go wrong.

And despite our disagreements, challenges, and imperfections, there is still much to be proud of. A nation built on the belief that people should be free. A nation that has repeatedly risen to meet extraordinary challenges. A nation whose strength is found not in its institutions alone, but in the character of its people.

That is worth remembering today.

We’re seeing reports that one crew member has been recovered, while efforts are still underway to locate the second after a U.S. F-15 went down over southern Iran.

We��ve seen this before.

In 2011, when a U.S. pilot went down in Libya during Operation Odyssey Dawn, ordinary Libyans stepped in. Good people risked everything to protect him from militias and get him to safety. No politics, no agenda just doing the right thing.

That’s the reminder today even in the worst circumstances there are still good people.

If that pilot is on the ground in Iran, let’s hope their first contact was with ordinary Iranians, people who’ve lived under this terrorist regime and largely reject it. They’ll make the right choice.

Praying for that and always for our troops and the people of Iran.

Turkey is a NATO member and claims alignment with Western legal norms and values, yet deporting Pastor Mojtaba Ahmadi back to Iran to face further torture and likely execution would directly violate the principle of non-refoulement under international law. You do not send someone back to a regime you know will persecute them for their faith, FULL STOP.

On Palm Sunday of all days, when Christians around the world remember both persecution and sacrifice, some experienced it today themselves directly in Syria and Nigeria. If Turkey allows this deportation, it is not just a bureaucratic failure, it is a deliberate choice to enable religious persecution. NATO allies cannot preach human rights while turning a blind eye when one of their own facilitates torture and death.

When my unit jumped into Northern Iraq in 2003 during the invasion of Iraq, we linked up with the Kurdish Peshmerga, who fought alongside American forces all the way south to Kirkuk.

The Kurds are a proud people and a warrior culture. If Kurdish fighters become involved in any conflict with Iran, they will fight hard.
