Some collections catch your attention because of how loud they are.

THE BUFOS caught mine for the opposite reason.

There’s a strange amount of personality packed into these characters. The faces, clothes, expressions and little details make each Bufo feel like they have a life outside the frame.

And I like that the world doesn’t feel overly polished.

The rough textures, unusual proportions and almost storybook-like artwork give everything a distinct character. You can look at one piece and immediately know where it belongs, while still feeling like the character has something of its own going on.

That balance is difficult to get right.

Too much consistency and a collection starts feeling repetitive. Too much variation and the identity disappears.

THE BUFOS seems to sit somewhere in between.

The characters feel like they come from the same place, but they don’t feel like they were made to be the same.

That’s probably what keeps pulling me back to the collection.

There’s always another face, another outfit, another little detail that makes you wonder who this Bufo is and what their story might be.

Maybe that’s the point.

Every Bufo belongs somewhere.
