@DarikClevinger@HumanistWolf@Socdem_Michael Exactly! I don’t know why people keep making these ridiculous comparisons. Hong literally says crazy stuff, supported crazy stuff, and held positions way out of the public mainstream. It’s not comparable.
@HumanistWolf@Socdem_Michael When are folks going to stop making these comparisons? Calling Obama Mao or Stalin didn’t work with most folks because he wasn’t a communist or a socialist so it didn’t stick. Attacks like that only work if there is truth to it. Hong literally said crazy stuff and is a socialist.
@SethAbrams1@earthejerr@ECaliberSeven Difference is that Obama was a very mainstream democrat. A moderate liberal democrat at that who was a generational political talent. And he also happened to be a practicing Christian. I’m not saying being a non-Christian is bad. I’m just pointing out so big differences.
@pleachchapel@JonXanderr@MattBoxer94 FDR was not a socialist nor a communist. He was a mainstream liberal. Like look up his actual record and what he campaigned on. It’s funny how the far left pretends that FDR was some far lefty because the far left back then hated him and called him a capitalist sellout lol.
@14Badseed@Ange_Amene Those folks aren’t elected democrats though nor are they really dedicated to the Democratic Party. Most democrats and most elected democrats rejected “defund the police”. It was mainly the far left and some others who pushed that.
@vulturesthieves@adonishsb@HenryDarrell317 I never said he did. I’m saying that he ran as a moderate liberal. Also, he literally outlined his political ideology in a best selling book called “An audacity of hope”. Like you can easily look this stuff up.
@watterman57157@HenryDarrell317 lol! The DSA polls even below the Democratic Party so what does that say. Also, Obama is one of the most popular former presidents with respectable to high rankings of his presidency. Even Bill Clinton has high approval than the DSA. So I wouldn’t laugh.
@TenPointPG@gwenmcdonald1 People opposed to him called FDR a socialist but he actually wasn’t anywhere close to a socialist. He was a liberal New Dealer. Supporting government programs doesn’t make someone a socialist especially since they also support the capitalist system being used to support it.
@vulturesthieves@adonishsb@HenryDarrell317 But he is right that on many other issues Obama was pretty moderate and pragmatic. Especially on issues like immigration, abortion, the budget, he was more moderate and pragmatic.
@vulturesthieves@adonishsb@HenryDarrell317 There were some differences but Obama and Hillary had many similar domestic policy proposals or goals. Also, his healthcare plan wasn’t radical. All the major candidates supported a form of what is the ACA with a public option and some kind of mandate.
@JasonWalker_@MariamaJames13@tify330 Though government programs and safety nets aren’t really socialism. It’s more social democracy capitalism with government which even the Nordic countries describe themselves as. The problem is that people don’t understand the differences with these terms.
@HieronymusMcG@betsy2dre@Needle_of_Arya My only slight disagreement is describing Talarico as DSA adjacent. He really isn’t DSA or DSA adjacent. He pretty much is in the center left lane. He doesn’t support defunding police, or banning fracking oil development, and other far left stuff that is toxic.
@iMightGhostYou@NR_Garrett@tify330 They both had a lot of similar domestic policy positions. But the actual far left hates Obama and constantly lies about him almost as much as the far right. They even say slick stuff about his family. So it might be more the other way around.
@iMightGhostYou@NR_Garrett@tify330 lol! Obama had plenty of establishment support when he ran for the US senate and the presidency. Hell folks like Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi urged him to run for president. It wasn’t moderate vs liberal back then it was a divide between who backed either Obama or Hillary.
@Red_Roscoe And to be honest. Mondale while a super New Deal liberal was still very mainstream. Same can be said for most of McGovern’s career. These DSA types running today make them look like super moderates lol.
@Red_Roscoe@JJM352588 Yeah basically because I think he was sensitive to the idea that he would be viewed as betraying a friend and his former VP and the idea from fringe left wing and right wing types that Obama pulls the strings from behind the scenes. He probably thinks better to enjoy retirement.
@MrSnookers@KillerMonkStain@daveweigel Well I don’t believe in hyperbole and tossing out claims or engaging in baseless rhetoric. But it is true that the far left hates liberals. They don’t agree with their support of the capitalist system and attempts to improve it. The crazy far left wants to end the system.
@immabigborg@magi_jay Because the majority of voters are either moderates or conservative leaning. Self identifying Liberals are not a majority and socialists are a minuscule percentage of the electorate and population. Either you want to win or stay in an echo chamber and continue to lose.
@MrSnookers@KillerMonkStain@daveweigel Yes! Liberal believe in capitalism but also believe in a robust social safety net and the government doing certain things. You may not like liberals but there are clear differences.
