40 years ago, Police Officer Irma Lozada was shot and killed while attempting to arrest a robbery suspect. She was the first female officer to be killed in the line of duty in our city.

Officer Lozada was assigned to Transit District 33 and previously served as an auxiliary police officer. Her memory continues to live on through K9 Zada.

Her commitment to protecting our community will forever inspire us to uphold the values of honor, integrity, and selflessness in our service to others. The NYPD always vows to #NEVERFORGET our fallen heroes
