"...the Norwegian public is somewhat measured in its assessments and considers the general threat level for Norway to be moderate, i.e. at a normal level. This suggests that the government’s actions have minimal impact on public opinion on world politics." @OyvindSvendsen

Surviving the unthinkable: Stories from the Holodomor Genocide 2023
📍November 24, 2023, at 17:30, Goethe Institut Schweden, Bryggargatan 12A, 111 21 Stockholm.
Language: English
In 1932/33, Soviet dictator Joseph Stalin deliberately caused a famine in Ukraine, known as the Holodomor, which led to the death of millions of people over two years. The event is an attempt to portray this tragedy through film, photo exhibition, lectures and music.
Exhibition: Opening of the exhibition "Project MARIA" by Canadian artist Lesia Maruschak. The exhibition takes its starting point and inspiration from a photo of Maria F, a little girl who survived the Holodomor. The fictional album of Maria's life chisels out Maria's fate and depicts the relationship between the past and the present. Artist Lesia Maruschak participates virtually.
Music: Joakim Stutschevsky (born 1891 in Romny, Poltava, Ukraine - died 1982 in Tel-Aviv, Israel, a Jewish-Ukrainian composer and cellist), "Kaddish". Jakob Koranyi (cello), Natalya Pasichnyk (piano)
Lecture: Jakob Hedenskog, Analyst at the Center for East European Studies @SCEEUS_UI .
Documentary film: "Holodomor - the genocide that never ended" (Director: Hemlock, Germany)
Inspired by Western Europe's incomplete reassessment of the crimes of the Soviet Union, this documentary focuses on the Holodomor. The Holodomor was the artificial famine that deprived an estimated three to seven million Ukrainians of their lives in the 1930s and still shapes the Ukrainian self-image today, without taking enough space in the international discourse. The film combines eyewitness interviews with expert voices, which together aim to shed light on the events of the time, to depict the international reaction and to clarify why the Holodomor was not internationally recognized as genocide until recently.
