40 years ago this weekend, President Ronald Reagan met with Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev at the historic Reykjavรญk Summit โ a pivotal moment that helped pave the way for the end of the Cold War and ultimately freed millions from the shackles of communism.
Now, it's your turn to carry that legacy forward by teaching a new generation why freedom triumphed.

40 years ago this weekend, President Reagan and General Secretary Mikhail Gorbachev met in Reykjavik, Iceland, for historic talks on nuclear arms. Thank you to historian Douglas Brinkley and photojournalist David Hume @kennerly for sharing their insights into this pivotal moment in history.
I was there as President Reaganโs arms control director, and later wrote about those years in ๐๐๐ ๐ฝ๐๐๐๐ ๐๐ ๐๐ผ๐. Now, a new film brings that period of history to the screen.

Today is the 40th Anniversary of the Reykjavik Summit โthe most consequential in the post-war era, as Reagan and Gorbachev began a steep decline (80%) in nuclear arsenals, Reagan pushed hard for the development of defensive systems (which have proven decisive in Ukraine, Iran, and Taiwan), and Gorbachev accelerated his sweeping reforms, which led to the collapse of the Soviet Union and the end of the Cold War.
Not bad for a weekendโs effort. Not bad at all!

October 11 and 12th marks the 40th anniversary of the historic Reagan-Gorbachev summit in Reykjavik, which vastly lowered Americaโs nuclear threat and represented the beginning of the end of the Cold War.
The events of that pivotal weekend are depicted in the newly released book, ๐๐๐ ๐ฝ๐ง๐๐ฃ๐ ๐ค๐ ๐๐๐ง, by Ken Adelman, the only active veteran of the summit, who was at Reaganโs side in Iceland as his arms control director.
The dramatic moments of the Summit are highlighted in the recently released feature film โThe Brink of War,โ starring Jeff Daniels and J. K. Simmons, and further detailed in this highly acclaimed companion book by Ken Adelman.
Ken is available to discuss his book and offer an inside perspective on the Summit, how it shaped the arms race, and its relevance today, as nuclear saber-rattling has returned to the forefront among the world's superpowers.
