MLB today proposed an overhauled domestic amateur-entry system that removes high school players from the draft, makes college players eligible after sophomore year, shortens the draft from 20 to 12 rounds, and cuts bonus pool from current $358.7M to $200M, sources tell ESPN.
For a team like the Padres with offensive flaws, is it worth giving up a haul to rent Tarik Skubal?
"I just don't know if this is the Padres team that's going to go out and chase," says @JeffPassan.

Not a lefty but…This is gonna sound ridiculous. If Pujols somehow came to San Diego he could play LF. Left field at Petco Park doesn't have as much real estate compared to CF to RF. He'd really be playing for his journey to 750 HRs and his 3rd WS
@TooMuchMortons_ Going to be real interesting over the next six weeks, team needs to stay above water before reinforcements in Musgrove/Pivetta come back. But if they can’t then theoretically it would allow them to shop two SP’s at the deadline plus the expiring BP pieces on the pitching side.
