Talking with @ArunAnandLive ,I shared my view of Operation Herof 2.0 as a potential turning point in the Baloch armed resistance, what it reveals about deeper political and social shifts in Baloch society, and how Pakistan’s security-focused approach perpetuates cycles of conflict. #OperationHerof

December 20: Martyrdom Anniversary of Karima Baloch
Seminar in London and Memorial Events Worldwide
#Banuk_Karima#Baloch_e_Ruzhn
To commemorate the martyrdom anniversary of Karima Baloch, the Baloch National Movement (BNM) will hold a seminar in London on 20 December titled “Karima Baloch: From Student Leader to a Global Symbol of Resistance.”
Representatives of the Baloch and other oppressed nations, as well as politicians and scholars, will address the gathering and share their reflections on the life, character, and political legacy of Banuk Karima Baloch.
BNM has also instructed all its chapters and zones to organize memorial events marking the martyrdom anniversary of Banuk Karima.
Banuk Karima Baloch is regarded as one of the most prominent and influential figures in Baloch political history and the national movement. Her political impact has been recognized internationally; in 2016, the BBC named her among the world’s 100 most influential women. She was the first woman to lead the Baloch Students Organization (BSO) and later became an active member of the Baloch National Movement (BNM).
Her martyrdom was a devastating loss for the Baloch nation. The collective response that followed evolved into a more organized political movement. The impact Banuk Karima Baloch left on Baloch society remains unparalleled.

On this International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, and in light of the United Nations campaign focusing in particular on violence in the digital realm, we would like to extend our respect and support to the courageous Baloch women, particularly activists and journalists, who continue to expose and challenge state-sponsored human rights abuses in Iran and Pakistan. Their strong and active public presence online has made them not only highly visible but has also exposed them to coordinated digital attacks with real-world consequences, including threats, disinformation campaigns, and deepfakes aimed at shaming, silencing, and discrediting them.
In this respect, Iran lacks specific legislation to prevent online violence against women. At the same time, its computer crimes laws, and Pakistan’s Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA), are frequently used to monitor the activities of activists and journalists and to criminalise legitimate expression.
We would also like to draw attention to the overlooked abuses faced by Baloch women in Iran and Pakistan as a consequence of the widespread human rights crisis affecting people of all ages and genders. Women and girls are often the first to face violence during raids on their homes, where authorities forcibly disappear or extrajudicially kill male family members. Their family members are executed or shot dead. They bear the psychological consequences of these traumatic experiences, leading to painful searches for the fate of their loved ones and a lifelong struggle with loss. Tragically, in recent months, they too have become subject to enforced disappearance.
Baloch women have had an exemplary and extraordinary journey, braving social stigma to take on leading roles in championing human rights in the region. Despite pressure from state institutions, sexual harassment, and blackmail at educational establishments, shrinking political space, media trials, and unlawful detention, these brave women have not abandoned their efforts to reshape society into one that is more tolerant, free from abuse, and that empowers and recognises women as equal. We stand with them in striving to realise this vision.

The Baloch Advocacy and Studies Center (BASC) is gravely concerned at the forcible disappearance of Nasreena, a minor girl abducted during a violent raid on her residence in Hub, Balochistan, on 22 November 2025. Police forces, accompanied by plain-clothed personnel from state intelligence agencies, carried out the operation, and her family has since been denied any information regarding her whereabouts or the grounds for her detention. This incident follows the disappearance of Mahjabeen, a 23-year-old woman taken from Quetta earlier this year, whose fate also remains unknown.
These cases once again lay bare the systematic and ongoing violations of human rights in Balochistan. The continued erosion of the rule of law, the widespread use of arbitrary detention, and the rising number of enforced disappearances are unacceptable. Although enforced disappearances have long characterised the human rights crisis in Balochistan, the increasing involvement of women and girls highlights the extent to which state repression has intensified.
These abuses persist within a broader environment of entrenched impunity. Pakistan’s security and intelligence agencies continue to operate without oversight, while a compromised judicial system has failed to prevent or prosecute these violations. Pakistan has not criminalised enforced disappearance, has not ratified the International Convention for the Protection of All Persons from Enforced Disappearance, and routinely violates its obligations under the ICCPR, CAT, and the Convention on the Rights of the Child. In light of the consistent, intentional, and widespread nature of enforced disappearances in Balochistan, the international community must recognise that the situation constitutes a systematic policy aimed at suppressing the Baloch people’s political aspirations and right to self-determination, and now represents one of South Asia’s most pressing human rights emergencies.
BASC urges the international community and the United Nations to take concrete action, including sustained diplomatic pressure on Pakistan, targeted sanctions against military and intelligence officials implicated in abuses, and the establishment of an independent international fact-finding mission with full access to affected areas. Such measures must not only secure the release of Nasreena and Mahjabeen but also ensure that these abuses are prevented in the future.
#SaveBalochWomen #EndEnforcedDisappearances
Human rights defenders and political activists in Balochistan are increasingly being targeted, not for violating any law, but for following their conscience and resisting unjust state policies through rights explicitly guaranteed by the constitution. The physical and ideological guardians of the state, acting through an installed and tightly controlled provincial government, exploit legislative powers to criminalize dissent rooted in humanitarian and democratic principles.
This raises essential questions: What are the authorities so afraid of? By abandoning democratic principles, targeting citizens, and misusing state institutions, whom are they truly protecting?
For decades, the people of Balochistan have been crushed under a relentless war of attrition. Corrupt and incompetent administrations have turned educational institutions into instruments of control, undermining already fragile academic standards, restricting cultural activities, & suffocating intellectual growth.
