@ClareHunter2074@laurarw As long as we live in a system where money is needed for stuff to be run, ads on social media are going to stay around. It is the same with TV channels running commercials, advertising pays the bills. #ucengl2074
@GreenwaldEllie@laurarw Regulation, as it is now, is at times too little and at other times too much. There should probably be rules against posting stuff that promotes violence, but at the same time, it can't ban everyone that talks about violence. Context vs content is hard for some sites to determine
@GlebermanJoshua@laurarw If you try to put in this βsocial media user licenseβ who is making the test for it? The ghouls in congress who don't know what wifi is? The corporations who just want money? What will be considered rule-breaking?
@GlebermanJoshua@laurarw Consider YouTube for a moment, it was a site built on creators doing what they want. However, due to crackdowns put in place under the guise of protecting children, many people may find themselves censored over the simple utterance of a singular word. (3/?)
What do you think about AI being used in social media? What do you think these AI features will really entail? Do you think it will even be worth it or is it just another bit of stupid nonsense corporations are trying to push?
This article is about how Youtube is apparently planning to implement AI features in later updates. Questions will be below.

@AverySomerville@laurarw#ucengl2074 They're dumb nonsense, even without basic shit being locked behind subscriptions, the idea of paying for any part of a service like Twitter is just stupid. I don't even pay for streaming services, i'm not paying to have a dumb checkmark on my account.
@azwilson18 @laurarw#ucengl2074 Parents should definitely be very careful when posting about their kids. With the number of weirdos out there, constantly sharing everything about your kid is an absolutely terrible idea.
@bowersavas@laurarw I could only really see ChatGPT being used for something like this consistently if people get extremely dumb. AI can only create things with large amounts of reference material, otherwise, it just spews out nonsense. #ucengl2074
@ants8191@laurarw No doubt it was designed to be addictive, basically, everything is designed to be addictive now. The more time your on a platform such as tiktok or twitter, the more chances there are for you to be advertised to. #ucengl2074
@ZacharyE543@laurarw#ucengl2074 I would hope VR could improve and become more common, but I don't think it will surpass regular SM. Communicating through text offers a degree of separation between people, interacting in a virtual world brings you closer to just talking. (1/?)
@lilianephills @laurarw#ucengl2074 Well I don't think it's a matter of preference on whether sm should be integrated into school more, because it IS the main way of communication in the modern era. The bigger issue is whether or not schools can implement it well.
@GreenwaldEllie@laurarw I don't really think that the Government could get involved with this given that social media usage is a personal issue. Trying to get the government involved would likely be as ineffective as things like prohibition were. #ucengl2074
@meredith_rickey Talking from experience, I'd say it's best to stave off using social media for a long as possible, especially sites like Twitter. I've found myself opening Twitter, scrolling for a bit, closing it, and then immediately reopening it ever since I got the damn app.

@amberambber@laurarw However, they also present a controlled version of themself when in public, a version of themself which is different from how they act at work or how they act with friends, or how they act with family. (2/?)
@amberambber@laurarw@laurarw#ucengl2074 I've thought about this topic for quite a bit of time and I would say that SM has only exacerbated a behavior that already existed. People present a controlled version of themself on social media, (1/?)
@MewMew518@laurarw I would say that yes, a person's social media usage has definitely affected how I view certain people. Like if I see someone I follow liking something that is radically right-wing, I'm probably gonna stop following them, or possibly even block them. #ucengl2074
