@KendallLinn23@KatieWPowell ...perfect. With mental health problems being what they are, it shatters this image of perfection, hence why it's difficult to normalize convos like these w/o it being intentional 2/2
@KendallLinn23@KatieWPowell I enjoyed that the article gave a lot of key info related to mental health awareness month while also keeping it digestible. I think mental health convos are difficult to normalize b/c I think we as a society have to break our egos to talk about it. We want to believe we are 1/2
@GreenwaldEllie@KatieWPowell I liked that the article was personal anecdote on hard-hitting topic. In relation to that, parents following a similar path that Elizabeth took in this instance is best for such situations. I think colleges making mental health a central focus is helpful in tackling the problem.
@KateBar97045573@KatieWPowell If anyone's interested, a doc known as "The Hunting Ground" provides a lot of eye-opening commentary on how even on college campuses, we still face a lot of systemic issues that make it challenging to combat the SA. Here's a link to learn more: https://t.co/mMIP313QYu
@KateBar97045573@KatieWPowell I think a lot of ppl thought that once the #MeToo movement gained national prominence, we had reached a turn point in terms of sexual assault issues. However, in the years that followed, it's clear that we still have a long way to go b4 the problem is even close to being resolved
@LaurenJaegerUC@KatieWPowell The main thing we can do is continue to further educate ourselves on the topic before beginning to engage in related convos with our friends and fam. I'm sure most of us don't usually chat about such issues regularly, but it's important if we want such change in our democracy!
@BriannaMarie_m@KatieWPowell I think Mr. Coppage's work is a much needed conversation starter for folks at least in the Cincy area to have a more localized convo on more subtle forms of racism. In general, I'm glad that art is being used to spread this message!
@MadisonKim73@KatieWPowell I'm supportive of parents having honest conversations about sex with their children. However, I don't think we should expect parents to be the best conduits for such convos, especially when kids spend most of their day at school anyway. Investing in better school sex ed is 🔑!!!
@OliviaDozier7@KatieWPowell I thought my reply sent way back when, but apparently not ahahaha. Anywho; I think decriminalizing marijuana is a great, but I think it would be wise to think critically about legalizing marijuana. I think regulating it is important so it doesn't become like the tobacco industry
@KaraStock7@KatieWPowell A wired ocean since I never thought wires and oceans could ever be reasonably associated with each other, much less seriously considered to be a climate change solution. I associated wires with electricity, which I thought was bad if mixed with water... Apparently not?
@BridgetAnneCar1@KatieWPowell Of the 5 reasons, I think a hybrid of reason 1 & 5 is what makes Psychology so important. I think a mental health crisis is a huge reason we face some current-day problems right now. Only through Psychology can we face them in my opinion. Hopefully we can face them!
@alexkniv @KatieWPowell I think we can hold gov'ts accountable by both having a high rate of voting and putting our money where our mouth is, literally. That said, I think the coverage of the World Cup is interesting consider all the problems other host have had w/o as much less negative press🤔🤔🤔
@BethanySee12@KatieWPowell Overall, it just felt awkward in that so many different aspects/topics related to this takeover were covered as opposed to going into detail of one the issues and potentially giving a take on it
@BethanySee12@KatieWPowell The article does an interesting job at reporting the Twitter takeover in an objective manner. 1 of the things I found goofy was that the potential directions for twitter felt frayed/sporadic. Perhaps that's just the reality of Twitter's direction, or maybe the objective reporting
@KateMcL54975894@KatieWPowell I'd also add that I liked how the LA Times made a national-ish issue more relevant to the audience of LA by tying what Kanye said to things going on in LA like the antisemitic rally on I-405 and the pamphlets suggesting Covid is a Jew agenda (which is patently false).
@KateMcL54975894@KatieWPowell I'm hopeful that younger generations don't hold celebrities in as high of a regard as we do currently. If we do that, I think folks like Ye won't have as much of an influence on thinking, etc.. This isn't to devalue a celeb's opinion on an issue tho, since they are ppl too!
@Taylor_green22@KatieWPowell The article's usage of stats to cover a pathos-heavy topic was nice. The dangerous part of the overturn of Roe is how it impacts college-aged women, as that group was the largest pop. to use abortion. Now that the access is gone in Ohio, we face a major challenge in health care!
@emily_moore4@KatieWPowell Pres. Biden's move is a step towards the right direction in weed policy, but it feels like a half-measure to appease those who feel he's been "soft" on the issue. In the future, he should reschedule weed and pardon all non-violent offenders who didn't have intent to distribute.
@MarinaP28161091@KatieWPowell Whether folks believe in CRT or not, idk how ur weariness of it would lead u to canceling a diversity day @ ur local school district. The culture wars have been going too far a while, and this is just another distasteful example smh😩
@KatieWPowell If you'd like to watch the full interview, you can find it here: https://t.co/NeVut1jqsI. I'd specifically mention that from 19:45 until the end, there's a good discussion on whether corporations' should "stand for something" which prolly shoulda been the actual post🥸🥸🥸
Great take by Jemele Hill: https://t.co/Rd5KOTs4TH. Imo, it's helpful to recognize & embrace subjectivity as opposed to acting as tho things are objective to your audience. Do you think media personalities should be measured by how objective they are @KatieWPowell#ucengl2144
