@SpicyShirley@IAGovernor The science of reading isn’t a curriculum. It is a collection of research from multiple fields regarding how children best learn to read. It is ever evolving, which indicates that our educational practices must also change to best meet the needs of our students.
AEAs collect and analyze data on student performance and educational trends, contributing valuable insights that inform policy decisions and enhance academic outcomes. #iaedchat#EveryDayatAEA
Former Iowa Department of Education Director Ted Stilwill (who was appointed by Terry Branstad and continued to serve under Tom Vilsack) takes a critical look at the Guidehouse report used to justify @IAGovernor's assault on Area Education Agencies: https://t.co/Xml9Kp5m2b
AEAs provide a wide range of professional development programs for teachers and administrators, aiding them in staying updated on best practices. This ultimately benefits students, who experience the positive outcomes of having well-equipped educators. #iaedchat#EveryDayatAEA
Through regional service provision, AEAs can capitalize on economies of scale, delivering programs more efficiently than individual school districts could achieve independently. This saves taxpayer dollars while still offering high-quality services. #iaedchat#EveryDayatAEA
@IAGovernor Ironically, the AEAs that you are attempting to decimate have been educating and supporting teachers with the science of reading and LETRS training for years.
Did you know we're in constant collaboration with our districts, tackling the challenges that come with serving Iowa's diverse student populations? AEA services fall under nine state-required standards for service & are evaluated by the Iowa Dept of Education to ensure quality.
The AEAs are a system. That system is predicated on economies of scale. The bill in its current form will potentially encourage larger districts to self-fund and leave. If the “scale” leaves the system, students in rural IA are very likely to be the most negatively impacted.
In 2017, AEAs established a statewide print collaborative to increase efficiency of operations by sharing equipment and labor. Iowa teachers count on these timely and efficient services to provide a number of classroom resources to support instruction. #EveryDayatAEA#iaedchat
@KimReynoldsIA Please share your comments for legislators here. Giving control of AEAs to the DE who is NOT qualified for the job is no answer. https://t.co/JpMg0gtzm9
Governor Reynolds is making Legislators who aren’t supporting her AEA plan come to her office and report that to her personally. She’s acting like a dictator.
Read the Iowa Code for yourself. Iowa’s AEAs were NEVER intended to be “Iowa Special Education Area Agencies” alone.
The code specifically calls out the provision of education services and media/technology as well.
All 3 are the core mission. #ialegis

@IAGovernor I encourage you to come watch any of us work or sit in on a meeting. Our guiding question is always, "What will be the best for the students?”
Did you know that it would cost thousands more for schools to utilize private companies for the things that AEAs do for them at a fraction of the cost??
Guess who the governor is trying to help ? Hint: it certainly is not your children’s educational opportunities.
Hey Iowa House Republicans - please split the AEA Bill into at least two parts soon. The proposed teacher pay increases are exciting and should be non-controversial. The part with the AEAs needs significantly more time for input and modification.
Did you know? All students are general education students first! To close the achievement gap, we start by ensuring quality universal instruction in general education classrooms. #EveryDayatAEA
