National Cancer Institute of Kenya Participates in Regional Clinical Investigators Training Program
The NCI-K participates in the Clinical Investigators Training Program hosted by Aga Khan Health Services in Dar es Salaam, led by CEO Dr. Sisawo Konteh. The program brought together oncology and research professionals from leading institutions across East Africa to strengthen clinical research capacity and improve cancer care outcomes.
Participating institutions included Aga Khan Health Services, Dar es Salaam, Benjamin Mkapa Hospital, Bugando Medical Centre, Kilimanjaro Christian Medical College, Ocean Road Cancer Institute, Aga Khan Hospital, Kisumu, Aga Khan Hospital, Mombasa, and the National Cancer Institute of Kenya delegation represented by Mr. Julius Kibichi and Mr. Mabuko S. Olum.
The training was facilitated by experts from Aga Khan University Hospital, including Prof. Mansoor Saleh, Prof. Jasmit Shah, Dr. Katu Mutungi, Prof. Rosebella Iseme Ondiek, Dr. Karishma Sharma, and Dr. Noureen Karimi.
Following the training, participants are developing oncology and women’s cancer research protocols that will receive seed-grant support through the East Africa Comprehensive Women’s Cancer Project, implemented by Aga Khan Health Services in Dar es Salaam and funded by the Aga Khan Foundation, Agence Française de Développement, and the Gates Foundation.
The initiative supports the full research cycle from protocol development and implementation to scientific publication and dissemination of findings from Kenya and Tanzania.
The program reinforces the National Cancer Institute of Kenya’s commitment to strengthening cancer research, regional collaboration, and evidence-driven approaches in advancing cancer prevention and control across East Africa.
