Thirteen deacons are set to be ordained priests, while 10 seminarians will be ordained deacons at Our Lady of Good Shepherd Rushoroza Cathedral Parish Grounds in Kabale.

The ceremony, presided over by Rt. Rev. Bishop Callist Rubaramira, Apostolic Administrator Kabale diocese.

Preparatory Meetings for Episcopal Ordination Commence.

Preparatory meetings for the Episcopal Ordination of Bishop-elect Msgr. Bonaventure Bosco Gubazire, M.Afr., have commenced, chaired by Msgr. John Vianney Sunday, Episcopal Delegate.

The meetings bring together the various committees and stakeholders involved in planning and coordinating the forthcoming Episcopal Ordination scheduld for Saturday, October 3, 2026 at Rushoroza Cathedral.

We pray for all participants to be guided by the Spirit of God, ensuring that all preparations are well organized and carried out in a spirit of prayer, unity and collaboration.

UPDATE: The Archbishop of Mbarara, His Grace Lambert Bainomugisha, has presided over the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the Uganda Martyrs Catholic Parish Church in Mbarara, a project estimated to cost Shs28 billion. Archbishop Bainomugisha called on the faithful to support the project through prayers and contributions, saying the church is intended to serve the wider community. The Chairperson of the Uganda Martyrs Church Construction Committee, Charles Byonanebye, said the planned church will accommodate about 3,000 worshippers and include parking facilities for more than 300 vehicles.

A total of 217m was on Friday raised in cash and pledges at the Assembly of Promoters of St. Ignatius University Kabale and launch of the endowment fund, held at Sheraton Hotel in Kampala.

In his remarks, Rt. Rev. Callist Rubaramira, Chancellor of St. Ignatius University applauded the generosity and commitment of the promoters and well-wishers during the Assembly and thanked them for advancing the University's mission of providing quality Catholic higher education.

In his remarks, Rt. Hon. Thomas Tayebwa, Deputy Speaker of the Parliament of Uganda, represented by Hon. Jacqueline Kyatuheire, Deputy National Treasurer of NRM thanked the Catholic Church for bringing social services closer to people. He commended Bishop Callist Rubaramira for his visionary leadership which led to establishment of St. Ignatius University in 2024.

Earlier today, 20 Seminarians were installed as Lectors and Acolytes while two Seminarians were welcomed and admitted as candidates for Major Orders.

The lectors and Acolytes will be posted in different parishes across the Diocese for their pastoral spiritual year. While those admitted as candidates for Major porder will be ordained Deacons next year (God willing).

We thank Bishop Callist Rubaramira for predicting over this function and pray for the candidates to be led by the Spirit of God in their ministry.

A Lector is entrusted with proclaiming the Word of God during the liturgy and his main roles include: Proclaiming the Scripture readings at Mass (except the Gospel), Leading the Prayer of the Faithful when there is no Deacon, Directing the singing and participation of the faithful when necessary, Preparing other readers for the liturgy, Helping promote a deeper love and understanding of Sacred Scripture among the faithful. A lector is called to proclaim God's Word with faith, reverence, and clarity, recognizing that the Scriptures are living and active.

An Acolyte is instituted to assist the priest and deacon, especially during the celebration of the Eucharist and his responsibilities include: Assisting at the altar during Mass, Preparing the altar and sacred vessels, Serving as an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion when needed, Purifying sacred vessels where permitted by Church norms, Exposing the Blessed Sacrament for adoration (without giving Benediction, unless otherwise authorized), Coordinating and training altar servers, Fostering reverence and devotion to the Holy Eucharist. The ministry of acolyte emphasizes service at the altar and a profound love for Christ present in the Eucharist.

Both ministries are not merely functional roles but are ministries of service to the Church. Lectors serve Christ present in His Word while Acolytes serve Christ present in the Eucharist.
