Let's give as much credit to The Streets as we do to the Professors who charged us for lessons we got for free. For some, the Book of Life my include lessons titled 'Play Stupid Games, Win Stupid Prizes' and 'FOFO' in later Chapters, if at all. For others both are Chapter 1.

For survivals sake, a tree will be forced at times to prioritize self over others. Trees are not selfish. They may be the most self-less in nature. Apple trees do not eat apples. They do what they must for themselves in order to over deliver for others.
