My former headmaster, Dr. Peregrine Kibuuka (may he continue to rest in peace), often reminded us:

"You may commit an offence as a group but, when I send you home, there comes a moment when you step out of the taxi and walk that lonely road by yourself".

It was his way of teaching us that while actions may be taken collectively, consequences are ultimately borne individually. The crowd may share the decision, but accountability always finds your doorstep alone.

Suppliers are becoming retailers just to survive, margins are disappearing and the taxman somehow knows your profits before you do.

Everyone is undercutting and chasing cash flow from the same customer. Business lately feels less like growth and more like survival. Keep that day job

If PWC Uganda received 400m UGX (~100k USD) from say PWC Bermuda as part of the fees to execute an assignment under the PWC group.... They'd be considered foreign agents and would have to go to the Minister to report themselves or be jailed for 20 years.

The Protection of Sovereignty Bill, 2026 was gazetted on 13 April 2026 and tabled before Parliament on 15 April 2026. The Bill proposes far‑reaching regulatory and criminal measures aimed at addressing perceived foreign interference in Uganda’s internal affairs.

If enacted in its current form, the Bill will have significant implications across multiple sectors, including NGOs, private companies, financial institutions, media houses, academic and research institutions, faith‑based organisations, diplomatic missions, and individuals receiving foreign funding or support.

Key features of the Bill include:
👉Mandatory registration for “agents of a foreigner”
👉Ministerial approval needed for certain foreign funding
👉Limits on policy advocacy and related activities
👉Expanded powers for disclosure, inspection, and enforcement
👉Strict penalties, including fines and long prison terms

What the Artemis II astronauts did over the last 10 days was a testament to their bravery. When I saw the cover page on my desk this morning, I thought about how old @Kalinaki is…. A young person leaving the newsroom during his prime.

It reminded me of the last years of Arsene Wenger at Arsenal. He saw all his best players leave. Journalism in Uganda today feels like those Wenger years at Emirates….

Anyway, like those Wenger players, Daniel leaves already a legend, a veteran…. That explains how talented he is that he was entrusted with responsibility at such a young age. Just like Fabregas for example was at Arsenal. A captain of soccer powerhouse at such a young age… DK, a captain (General Manager, Editorial) at NMG.

Although I am happy for what DK has been able to do and achieve at such a young age, I also feel sad for journalism. People like DK shouldn’t be leaving journalism during their prime.

But that’s the industry in Uganda and perhaps in many other markets.

However, journalism in Uganda should be grateful for the decades he gave it. DK must have felt like Wenger at one stage, seeing his talented protégés leave from time to time.

But the good thing is that the people he has mentored over the last quarter a century or so will be able to carry on. Time for others to become the Mikel Artetas.
