When you start encroachment clearance.....start with those homes in rich neighbourhood...who convert footpath into garden, private parking...and then with shops and establishments and then street vendors....

This is a very welcome initiative, @krishnabgowda Reclaiming 2,000 km of footpaths for pedestrians is long overdue, and it will make Bengaluru safer and more walkable.

May I suggest one addition that could make this campaign a lasting success?

Please don’t stop at removing encroachments.

Let’s also standardise how footpaths are designed across Bengaluru.

A great example already exists within our own city.

Walk there and you’ll immediately notice the difference:

✅ Railings and bollards prevent two-wheelers from entering footpaths.
✅ Continuous protection keeps pedestrian space free from encroachment.
✅ People walk on the footpath—not on the road.
✅ Good design reduces the need for constant policing and enforcement.

Now compare that with many other parts of Bengaluru.

Open footpath entrances invite bikes.
Encroachments return after every drive.
Pedestrians are forced back onto the carriageway.
The same problems repeat year after year.

This is not just an enforcement issue.

It is a design issue.

If we build footpaths that naturally protect pedestrians, we won’t need repeated encroachment drives every few months.

As this campaign begins on July 1, this is the perfect opportunity to adopt a city-wide footpath design standard based on proven examples like Electronic City.

Let’s not just clear footpaths.

Let’s build footpaths that stay clear.

That would be a lasting legacy for Bengaluru.

@ChristinMP_ @krishnabgowda we had someone for last many months organized walkaluru every other weekend in joint venture with respective commissioners and had certified clean footpaths....which was a setup...preintimation...clear footpath for a day and back to old state again ...hope this time diff
