The following year, Kühne coined the term "enzyme" (from Greek "en zyme", in yeast).
Fun fact: many sources say "trypsin" comes from Greek for "rubbing" because Kühne ground up the pancreas. That's a myth. It actually comes from "thrýpto", meaning "I break".
The answer is 1876.
German physiologist Wilhelm Kühne discovered trypsin while working at the University of Heidelberg. He extracted it from pancreatic juice and showed it could digest proteins outside a living organism.
