Dear Maine,
Jesus. How the hell haven't you had enough of @SenSusanCollins??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
VOTE HER OUT.
GIVE MAINE A REAL CHANCE.
NEW: The Texas Senate race just flipped in favor of the Democrats.
@JamesTalarico now has 56% odds to win vs. Ken Paxton at 45%.
This late surge is not subtle. What used to look like a safe Republican seat is suddenly a live race.
I said it at the time (and before!), but I truly believe that American voters electing Donald Trump for a second term in 2024 was the dumbest and most self-harming choice made by an electorate in the history of humanity
This is beyond sickening…another gut punch to science, scientists and the world for that matter. The beauty and strength of NSF is they have always funded the best science…fundamental thru applied. Zero politics. They funded 90% of my research over my 30+ year career…this is heartbreaking.
The National Science Foundation (NSF) has issued a 10-page memo signaling a retreat from its traditional role of giving grants to individual researchers to pursue their best ideas and to train the next generation of scientists.
Instead, the memo makes clear, NSF will devote the bulk of its resources to addressing the research priorities of President Donald Trump and his administration, many of them technology focused. https://t.co/npVR6aw2fj
Day 12 after total knee replacement.
Yesterday I was stuck at 72° and it felt like a setback. A bit of swelling in my ankle cause I walked too much. This morning my PT person came out, pushed me harder than I would have pushed myself, and I hit 92°. Ahead of schedule.
The lesson keeps repeating: the discomfort during PT is needed. Need to give it a week or so to heal and get swelling down. After that…flex and stretch away…the earlier, the better before the “cement”, aka scar tissue, hardens. After she pushed me, walking got noticeably easier for the day — not harder. PT is a full time job…
Outpatient PT starts Monday. First real outing is Friday for my Novavax booster…gonna get my first ride in a Costco scooter!!
Yesterday was a bump. It turned out to be just a little one. 🦵
Most docs wear N95s when seeing potential COVID patients and remove them after they leave room. The virus hovers in rooms for hours. This notion of 6ft and 15 min near an infected individual to call close contact is ludicrous and leading to the continuing propagation of COVID-19.
On and off the timeline today but every time I am on I am bombarded with posts from people who are testing positive for SARS2 or reporting about it among families and friends. The descriptions of the symptoms are upsetting. If this happened to/happens to you, here are some resources that may be helpful.

As an epidemiologist, I often hear about COVID in past tense.
COVID-19 is very much still here. The last two years were the mildest COVID-19 seasons to date, but they caused a similar level of hospitalizations as two very severe flu seasons.
Rybakina letting the girl from the US Open lemonade stand hold the trophy was wholesome
Elena “Do you want to hold it?"
"Really?"
Elena “Yes of course”
"Guys I just won"😂
Elena “Are you playing tennis?"
"Yeah"
Elena “So hopefully in 10, 15 years"🥹

Novavax gang, tap in. I was able to grab my booster today at CVS. If you search for it in the locator, it now comes up as Sanofi, not Novavax or Nuvovax. I believe it’s available at Costco pharmacies too, with or without a membership.
