Avoid THIS Mistake And Your Offense Will Thrive

Check out this awesome teaching point Coach Bob Martin talks about from The Screening Game Offense
@rfmhoosiers87

“One of the worst things you can do for your teammate is to make a pass that has your team at a disadvantage."

Know WHY you are passing the ball to your teammate!

That kind of decision-making is a big part of what makes The Screening Game work.

Get More Ball Reversals and Paint Touches (Here's How)

Fraction! Some of you likely start to break a sweat just hearing that word.

Relax, we won't get too deep into math today.

But there is one set of numbers that helps illustrate one of the biggest offensive challenges teams face: creating better scoring opportunities without turning the ball over.

We know ball reversals and paint touches lead to more efficient offense.

Analytics show two clear trends:

1. More ball reversals = higher points per possession (PPP)
2. Paint touches = higher points per possession (PPP)

In fact:

- No ball reversal or paint touch = .706 PPP
- 1+ ball reversals = .935 PPP

And look what happens when you get a ball reversal AND a paint touch on the same possession...

- 1+ ball reversal AND a paint touch = 1.189 PPP

Those differences are significant.

But knowing ball reversals and paint touches lead to better offense isn't usually the problem.

The challenge is getting players to create them without forcing bad passes or driving into single gaps that lead to turnovers.

So how do you do that?

Use this tip from Coach Bob Martin's Screening Game to help your players pass better and create better scoring opportunities. @rfmhoosiers87

Coach Martin's teams have ranked among the state leaders in:

- 3-point percentage
- Assist-to-turnover ratio
- Offensive rebound percentage

3 Best Basketball Drills For Passing & Screening | Small Sided Games For Conceptual Offense

In this video, Georgia HS State Championship Coach Bob Martin takes you through 3 drills from his Screening Game Offense that have helped make his King’s Christian teams some of the best offensive teams in the country. @rfmhoosiers87

Among their offensive feats:

- Top 3 in Georgia in 3 Point % (39%)
- Offensive rebounded 37% of their misses
- 1.5:1 Assist to Turnover ratio

Coach Martin explains how players are assigned roles as a screener, cutter, or screener/cutter. By doing so, players have clarity on what their jobs are within the offense.

That allows players to work together as a cohesive unit, with all 5 players involved in the offense. By focusing on passing and screening, Coach Martin’s offense generates extensive ball reversals and pain touches, resulting in much higher points per possession.

Stats show that 1 ball reversal raises points per possession from .706 to .935.

If you add in a paint touch along with the ball reversal, points per possession skyrocket to 1.189.

The drills in this video will help you create an offense that passes and screens efficiently and effectively. That will lead to better scoring opportunities, more points, and more wins!

These are just a few of the drills Coach Martin uses to teach the system.

4v4 FIBA Style Drill - Develop Quicker Decision Making & Maximize Spacing

Check out one of Coach Bob Martin's “Fiba” style drills from The Screening Game.
@rfmhoosiers87

- On a score, the opponent must take the ball out beyond the 3 point line
- Play to 2 points (all baskets are worth 1)
- Winning team stays
- Staggered actions occur organically in The Screening Game
- Pull the ball out when things become too organized so teammates can re-space themselves and then play on
- If both screeners end up on the same side of the court, one simply cuts out to the opposite side

Why You Must Start “Fast”

If you want your team to be able to play at multiple speeds, you have to teach them to play fast first.

If you start by coaching your team to walk the ball up the floor, you’ve already limited their ability to attack with pace.

Playing fast is smart offense. As Steve Kerr says, “It’s always easier to attack an offense that’s not set than one that’s set.”

The defense is at its most vulnerable in transition, and points per possession go up.

That’s why you should constantly drill your team on playing with pace.

This is the starting point for The Screening Game.

Two Dribbles To Dominate: 2v2 No - Switch Drill For Quick Scoring

Coach Bob Martin goes over this short sided 2v2 drill from The Screening Game Offense. This drill gives your players plenty of space to spread the defense out. @rfmhoosiers87

There is no switching allowed during this drill.

Try to play 3-4 feet outside the 3 point line for best spacing

- 2 dribble limitation for this drill
- Players can pass back out to a coach and reset if they get nothing the first time
- Players should dribble less and pass more in The Screening Game
- Progressions include down screens, back screens, and switching defenses

If you want to implement these concepts with your team, today is the final day to save 30% on the complete Screening Game Offense.
