@KVanSteePNP@brownam130 I worry how hard it is for the unauthorized immigrant population in the US to get LTs 😢. The United Network for Organ Sharing doesn’t have restrictions, but each liver transplant center can set their own policies.

@DaniSebbens@AimeeBucci Agreed, careful prescribing is key :) Acetaminophen can be safe even in pts w/liver disease, just lower doses (2 g/day).
Question, I've heard that Acetaminophen is preferred over NSAIDs for pts w/liver disease, what are your thoughts?

@awatkinsPNP@lizespinoza_dnp Great post Alyse! There are new studies looking at the connection b/w increased cases of peds liver disease & hepatitis and adenovirus infections, and how it relates to decreased immunity from post-COVID lockdown.

Infantile hepatic hemangiomas (IHHs) are a common cause of intraperitoneal
bleeding in peds. IHHs can present with GI s/s & hepatomegaly (Gong et Al., 2022), stressing the importance of imaging for accurate dx.
@lizespinoza_dnp@TaylorTranPeds We have this at Shriners!! It’s a game changer for a lot of kids to help make uncomfortable procedures more tolerable :)
Recent studies have suggested that patients with hyperchloremic metabolic acidosis had a higher risk of mortality- could balanced fluids make a difference? Do you chose balanced fluids or NS in resuscitation?

@Kc_Dnpstudent@lizespinoza_dnp Great article Kristi! Appropriate fluid management is such an important intervention in pediatrics. These little ones are definitely more prone to the serious sequelae from dehydration so appropriate intervention is key :)

New concept learned this week- peds pts are optimally sedated only 60% of the time. Oversedation and its negative sequelae are common, but sedation protocols can improve clinical outcomes and reduce oversedation.
