Major cheat code for life: Master the art of the fresh start. From a bad morning. From a bad interaction. From a missed workout. From a poor decision. The goal isn't to avoid the fall. It's to shorten the time between the fall and the reset. Fast recovery compounds.
The family of Kenyan doctor Ambrose Kimiti Mwangi, a member of a United Nations medical evacuation team, has renewed an urgent appeal for his release more than a year after he was taken captive in Somalia. Dr Kimiti, 45, has been held since January 10, 2024, after a helicopter he was travelling in during a medical evacuation mission reportedly made an emergency landing in an area controlled by Al-Shabaab.
Speaking to the media, his mother Margrete Wairimu, accompanied by his elder brother Martin Mwangi, urged the Kenyan government, the United Nations, and international partners to intensify diplomatic efforts to secure his freedom. Their plea follows the emergence of an undated video in which Dr Kimiti appeals for help, saying he and his colleagues have been held for over a year and a half.
The family last saw him on December 27, 2023, before he returned to duty in Somalia, and say communication from authorities has been limited.

#ALERT: Al-Shabaab Releases Video of Kenyan UN Worker Held in Somalia, Following Earlier Video of Ukrainian UN Pilot
The Kenyan national, who is in Al-Shabaab custody, was serving as a member of an aero-medical evacuation team with the United Nations Mission in Somalia when he was captured in January 2024. He was taken hostage after the UN helicopter he was flying made an emergency landing due to a technical malfunction near Xiindheere District in the Galgaduud region.
In the video, he appeals directly to Kenyan President William Ruto and United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres, urging them to take steps to secure his release. He also calls on the Kenyan public to show solidarity and advocate for his freedom.
The video was circulated via social media platforms associated with Al-Shabaab militants.
As of now, neither the United Nations nor Kenyan authorities have issued a public statement regarding the video or the status of the captive.
