In a time when many young people feel unheard and unseen, the @KYTInitiative is proving that leadership grounded in service, humility, and action can change lives.
On the sidelines of the ongoing, 'Our Ocean Conference', I met with the Kenya Youth Transition Initiative (KYTI) team to hear about their experiences, exchange perspectives and explore how young people can tap into the vast opportunities emerging within the Blue Economy.
We explored possible ways of empowering youth through skills development, innovation, entrepreneurship and sustainable livelihoods linked to the conservation and responsible utilization of marine and aquatic resources.
With colleague PS Betsy Njagi (Blue Economy & Fisheries) and Lang'ata MP, Hon. Felix Oduor alias Jalang'o, we met with the leadership of the Kenya Youth Transition Initiative drawn from the four counties of Siaya, Kisumu, Homa Bay and Migori, an outreach program facilitating National Identity Card applications and voter registration across the country.
The program brings these essential services closer to residents, reducing long travel and additional costs.
The ongoing national initiative to register citizens for IDs is empowering individuals, especially those from rural communities, by giving them access to essential services and full participation in civic life.
Inspected the progress of this exercise in Masara, Suna West Constituency, Migori County.
@KYTInitiative has intensified its mass ID registration and voter enlistment drive across Kisumuโs informal settlements, targeting thousands of eligible youth who remain undocumented. The campaign combines civic mobilization with community outreach to ensure young people aged 18 and above obtain national identification cards and register as voters ahead of the 2027 General Election. Supported by Internal Security and National Administration Principal Secretary @ray_omollo, the initiative underscores access to a national ID as a constitutional right and a gateway to essential services, employment, financial inclusion, and full participation in governance.
Today, we took Mobile ID registration to Upper-Bwanda Sub-Location, Bwanda Location, Kabonyo Kanyagwal Ward in Nyando Constituency, Kisumu County.
Residents accessed National ID application services right at their doorstep, advancing inclusive service delivery and ensuring every eligible citizen is reached and registered. ๐ฐ๐ช

The Mvita Jitume Digital Lab, Mombasa County, is a strong example of youth empowerment through the Digital Superhighway, a key pillar of the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).
The lab is currently running Cohort 8, with about 200 youths trained per cohort, equipping young people, mainly Form Four graduates, with practical digital skills to access Ajira and online jobs.
The training is fully free, removing barriers to entry and expanding opportunity.
The programme is supported through strong multi-agency partnerships. @konzatech provides computers, the @MoICTKenya deploys trainers and supports maintenance, @National_Bank delivers financial literacy training, while the @KIMKenya offers career guidance to prepare participants for the job market.
As the digital space continues to expand, the National Computer and Cybercrimes Coordination Committee (NC4) under the State Department for Internal Security and National Administration is playing a critical role in safeguarding Kenya's digital space, ensuring that young people can work, learn and earn online in a secure environment.
After losing her fingers in an accident, she feared sheโd never get a national ID. Through inclusive implementation of the law and alternative biometrics, she was able to register successfully. A reminder that no Kenyan should ever be left behind. #RegisterBeCountedVote
Launched the Nyota Start-Up Capital disbursement of KSh147.5 million for 5,901 beneficiaries from Machakos, Kitui and Makueni counties, Kenyatta Stadium, Machakos town. The funds are empowering young businesspeople to start businesses, create jobs and take charge of their economic future.
Senior citizens across Siaya County have turned out in large numbers for a government-led national identity card registration drive, marking a major step toward inclusion and equity.
For decades, many of these elderly citizens were left undocumented, an historical injustice that denied them access to essential government services and the ability to fully exercise their democratic rights.
This initiative corrects that long-standing exclusion while affirming the government's commitment to dignity, participation and equal opportunity for all.
Residents of Alego Usonga turned up in large numbers at Sumba Chiefโs Camp for the ongoing registration exercise. The turnout was notable, reflecting strong public interest and engagement.
