Postdoc @ Penn Med w/ Ronny Drapkin | Working to understand the role of aging effects on ovarian cancer | PhD UMN BME-Dr. David Wood's Living Devices Lab
It was an amazing opportunity to give my first talk as a postdoc at my alma mater 💛❤️💛! Winning one of the best talk prizes was the icing on the cake. Thanks to the organizers for such a fun and unique conference experience!
Collagen droplets improve throughput of standard 3D hydrogel studies, enable unique contraction and ECM deposition assays, and enable functional drug screening of lung fibrosis. @davesbiochips @K_cummins1 https://t.co/QUX5jIqcpu
Incredibly exciting to finally see this work in print! Check out how we performed high-throughput 3D culture to probe fibroblast function in APL Bioengineering. A huge thank you to my advisor @davesbiochips and collaborators @dtschump1 & Dr. Peter Bitterman for their support!
@KristinaGrozic I have enjoyed using Inkscape to create figures for papers/talks. It's similar to Illustrator (a little clunkier) but open source! Also I actually found getting started on Inkscape's UI was easier than Illustrator, plus there are many online resources to help you get going.
We are THRILLED to have Gabbi on board and to have her helping us become a more inclusive, diverse community. She has already been such an amazing addition to the department and we are excited to continue working together on our collective goals!
Is anyone having an issue submitting #BMES2021 abstracts? Myself and 2 labmates are each getting the error:
Card failed to process (The transaction is being held for review.)
Any tips/tricks/obvious things we're missing? Besides not procrastinating and submitting night of...
I'm very appreciative of the opportunity to speak with @KellyBArnold at the @umn_gwbme extended stay event yesterday. I've been in a science rut for a few months and hearing from her was a great reminder of why I want to continue pursuing academic research. Thank you Dr. Arnold!
I got to catch up with one of my fellow @RPI_BME Class of 2016 peers last week while interviewing Marcus for a BHM profile with our department's DEI Alliance! A fun reason to reconnect with an old friend while we are all still so isolated.
(1/7) Marcus Flowers, a PhD candidate co-advised by Drs. Chun Wang and Brenda Ogle, is working to develop multi-material microcapsules for spatiotemporal control over drug delivery. Marcus grew up in Woodbury and was one of the few Black students at his schools; he then moved to
I had the best time interviewing Matt for a BHM Feature last week. We spoke for 2 hours instead of our planned 30 min about his project, applying for fellowships, and (mostly) about skiing. He even had this handy model at his desk to walk me through some of the details 😂
(1/7) Matthew MacEwen is a PhD candidate in Dr. Arin Ellingson’s rehabilitation medicine lab and is building a multifaceted biomechanical model driven by lumbar kinematics. Before coming to UMN, Matt obtained a BS with @UVABME where he worked with Dr. George Christ on using
Virtually every aspect of the COVID vaccine, from the lipid nanoparticles to the mRNA technology, was developed in academic labs using public funds. But in the public's mind the credit goes to companies like Moderna/Pfizer. This is a missed opportunity to celebrate basic research
While our Alliance is committed to unlearning white-washed American history and to participating in antiracism work year round, we are excited to celebrate Black History Month. We will be sharing achievements of Black inventors and pioneers in medicine all month, so stay tuned!
A Monday victory! I asked to shadow some in vivo work with my collaborators instead of staying in my own experiment bubble since my experience is completely in vitro. Baby steps in self-advocating for what I want/need to be successful.
@jlmadigan1@BMESociety@jlmadigan1 I was able to catch your presentation yesterday and was thinking about how amazing your figures looked throughout the talk. And they're even better than I had remembered! Congrats!
