The US government, citing national security authorities, has issued an export control directive to suspend all access to Fable 5 and Mythos 5 by any foreign national, whether inside or outside the United States, including foreign national Anthropic employees.

The net effect of this order is that we must abruptly disable Fable 5 and Mythos 5 for all our customers to ensure compliance.

Access to all other Claude models is not affected.

I can understand peoples patriotism, but the hard truth is we just can’t afford a long standing war with anyone. All we can do is perpetuate the optics of military strength, but for better or worse, the US is slowly, I believe, is going to retreat from the Middle East, China will absorb it given proximity, and the US will be a more local power ie, Venezuela, etc. We just can’t afford to play big global bully anymore. It’s a complete reality check.
