Does anyone still call the skin the integumentary system? The name comes from the Latin ‘integumentum’, which means an covering’, but was first used in biology in the 1660s. Bonus: here’s a statue of Bartholomew the apostle carrying his own integumentary system.

TIL: Plantar fibromatosis (thickening of connective tissue of the feet) is also called Ledderhose disease. Not because of the traditional dress of Oktoberfest (that’s lederhosen) but rather after the German surgeon Georg Ledderhose, who described the condition in 1894.
Jean Cruveilhier (1791-1874) was a french anatomist and pathologist. His masterpiece was "Anatomie pathologique du corps humain" (1829–1842), with over 200 copper plates illustrated by Antoine Chazal.
