@shundeshagen @drkeithsiau I once had a case where mere touching the varix with a closed forceps (to feel its consistency) caused local irritation/inflammation to such an extent that on the next day patient came back with variceal bleeding from that spot exactly. I have learned to be very careful...

Another avoidable death in the news today due to someone taking biopsies of gastric varices during endoscopy. Varices are bulging veins that have a bunch of grapes appearance and usually come with portal hypertensive gastropathy. If in doubt, take photos and don’t biopsy.
