some additional context that went into the carefully considered choice of rendering 安折 as “anzhe” 🧵🪡
firstly, anzhe is not a person, legally or physically. all his documents say an ze, and that’s who he’s assumed to be - the name “anzhe” exists only in his head.
@yeoreumcha Completely agree! I thought it's a pretty subtle & neat detail that really adds an extra layer to the whole concept. I honestly like the interpretation a lot and also find it very logical. Glad I'm not alone in that thought, I've seen so much negativity I thought I was crazy 😅
@amixycillin I personally love learning about different people's interpretations & translations for things. It's fascinating. He is just a lil mushroom. So thank you for sharing. You're one of my favorite tl's, so I can't wait to read your version and interpretation. You'll do amazing!🫶
I understand the situation is distressing but guys please do not start flinging around wild accusations that hurt the human translators already pouring their work into these books.
This is a very personal commission and a bit darker than a lot of my posts. Last year I went through a lot, and in a way still going through things. Truthfully, I don’t know that the battle ever truly ends. The depression, the spirals, the longing, the aching. It just hurts all the time. I’ve been focusing on the little things. On the good. The things that spark any ounce of joy. Learning to cherish everything around me more. Giving appreciation to my family and friends where I can. No matter how difficult a moment may be, I pull out the will to persevere.
Art can be a powerful tool for self expression and I wanted to hire @carolineburgen to bring forth some of the feelings I have inside. I think it’s important to acknowledge that not everything will always be okay and that it’s normal to struggle with mental health. Life is an ongoing journey that we are continually learning to adapt to.
If you’re going through something, remember that you aren’t alone. Everyone has battles, whether we’re privy to them or not. To the ones we’re aware of, remember that the depth of another’s struggles does not diminish your own. Some days are easier than others, but you owe it to yourself to keep fighting. All you can do is take it one step at a time, and to find the compassion toward yourself.
To my friends seeing this, I’m okay. This piece was done months ago. Yall don’t need to message me. I know you’re there for me and appreciate you all. I promise everything is fine and I really don’t feel like phone calls right now lol.
Love you all 🩵
Always remember that reading is deeply personal.
We readers come to fiction with different kinds of hunger, and we leave nourished in different ways. Preferences aside, stories can mean different things to different people at different points in their lives.
One good side that happened because of the horrid Alastor ace debate a few days ago: is that I've helped over 15 people figure out what kind of ace they are because I showed THIS chart in my videos!
