Advocacy may occur in closed meetings; however, if boards remain silent publicly, they become complicit in the misinformation and deception that is being attempted by government.
School boards should not fear retribution for making statements that contradict government positions.
@JoanneCV57@PremierScottMoe 25+ children in one room all day. This is not realistic of any real world situation. Our schools should reflect collaboration, creativity, critical thinking, communication. Our children deserve an education system that has evolved with & for them!
@JoanneCV57@PremierScottMoe Children in rows of desks all day.Endless worksheets as demonstrations of learning.Hierarchy of teacher over child, rather than learning partners.Outdated assessments.Silence preferred over dialogue.Less play.Less outdoor time.Punishment models vs Social skill support mindset.
@JoanneCV57@PremierScottMoe There would be next to no need for this if our society would evolve in our visions of what schools should be.We are operating with archaic systems, w/ outdated practices that our kids are tired of and are proving no longer works.
@PremierScottMoe Is this seriously a funded pilot?Wasn’t this done in the 70’s and called a resource room? Are we seriously going back to this? Why were educators not consulted? If we honestly believe segregating children is best practice, we’ve all lost.
We spend 50% more hours in school than Finland. They have NO standardized tests until PISA in HS and they outperform us every time. They have multiple recesses daily, & options like crafts, home Ec, PE, Arts. etc. And teachers have more control over teaching than politicians!
Teachers, want to take something off your plate? Put HW in the trash, especially for elementary grades. Let students go home to run, play, and enjoy being a child. And read a little after playing. Then they come to school recharged instead of stressed out and you will too!
We had so much fun hosting our families today. This month, we have an open invitation to Play Hall so families can come into the school to play and learn alongside their child. #familyengagement@HolyTrinitySD
A new #inquiry is brewing with our K-2’s. We will be exploring spring together and we have so many curious investigations ahead of us. We are inspired by @jess_vanceEDU & @trev_mackenzie@HolyTrinitySD
Did an #EstiMystery in grade 1/2 today followed by some exploration with the dominoes. Some Ss noticed the connection between this one and splat math! @SteveWyborney@KaeTurberfield
A 4-day school week for students is perfect for ALL involved.
TEACHERS can use the 5th day to catch up with their insane workload!
STUDENTS can catch up & participate in ANY off-campus, extra curriculars they’re interested in without the wildness of a minute-to-minute schedule.
In gradeless classrooms, feedback can act as grades, to give students a reference of how they're doing. This allows them to grow with individualized teaching to lead them towards a path that best suites them, personally.
I like this (as a self reflective piece, not as a measure of compliance). Important to also talk about how drive may fluctuate from day to day, impacted by external variables. Over time could see if the level of engagement changes with certain types of tasks and reflect.
Looking for a challenge that will positively impact your health and likely the planet, too, this year? How about spending 1000 hours outside?! Love this idea! 🌿🌍 #1000hoursoutside
