The RECHS History Club went to UNC-CH to view portions of Omar the opera and meet with and ask questions of the writer, Rihannon Giddens. It tells the true story of an enslaved man taken from his home in what is now Senegal and trafficked to SC then escaped to NC. @RCS_NC

Seeing “Omar” (an opera by Rhiannon Giddens) with Ms. Abbott and history club members was incredible. This experiences expanded my traditional view of operas and shed light on North Carolina history. Thank you @vannabbott!!

What’s the difference between LGBTQ+ History Month and LGBTQ+ Pride Month?

LGBTQ+ History month was founded in 1994 by Missouri high-school history teacher Rodney Wilson!

LGBTQ+ History month is from October 1st to October 31st. This month is a time to highlight, celebrate, and observe the achievements and history of individuals apart of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer communities.

“Moonlight” took a total of 25 days to film, separated into three parts. The actors who played the lead character at different stages of his life actually never met or watched each other's film play. The consistency from each actor came from being so immersed in the script.

Barry Jenkins came across “In Moonlight Black Boys Look Blue” and was immediately inspired by the main character's story. With McCraney’s blessing, Jenkins was able to convert the story/play into “Moonlight.”

Tarell Alvin McCraney actually wrote “In Moonlight Black Boys Look Blue”, as a drama school project and never imagined it becoming a major Hollywood movie!
