A year ago, I traveled with startup founders to Dubai for a tech event with the goal of raising funding for Kayko. On the sidelines of the event, there was a dinner happening at this exclusive restaurant, and we decided to go for it, hoping to meet potential investors.
“Rwandans have repaired what was destroyed, including our lives. And we are much better now than 30 years ago. We just have to keep going. I was going to say don’t relax, but I want you to relax. Only remember that, while you relax, parallel to that, you need to be doing the right things, the right way, and at the right speed. You can go far and fast at the same time. That’s what our situation compels us to do and we must think like that.” President Kagame | #RwandaDay
“You know, people say that lightning does not strike twice in the same place. It doesn’t strike the same place twice. Maybe. But for me, I want to be on the safe side, I would rather make sure and prepare for a situation where Rwanda that was struck once badly in 1994 will not be struck again. ” President Kagame | #RwandaDay
“Because of our history, when we started rebuilding this country, the starting point was so low that we could not go any lower. The result is that today, the only way is up and nothing can stand in our way. This does not happen on its own. It is a result of the choices we have made, our determination and a mindset that believes we will do what it takes no matter how difficult.” President Kagame
“We are also dealing with insecurity in our region, and on our border. I want you to know that we can absorb any amount of criticism, however unjustified. We will always do what is necessary, to ensure that Rwandans are safe and secure, no matter what.
Within our means, Rwanda will continue to do what we can to help our brothers and sisters elsewhere in Africa to restore peace and security.
Any year, in every place in the world, there will be problems. Adversity is just an invitation to become more determined, and do more and better.” President Kagame | End of Year Message
I always take out a moment during the holidays to reflect on the outgoing year and plan for the next year. I measure and plan my journey in 7 areas - Faith, Family, Fitness, Field (Career), Finance, Contribution to community and Personal growth. So far so good. Happy New Year!
