@PlastiqSoldier@johnrhanger Maine’s generation is more than 60% renewables, the rest is natural gas. But the state is also a net importer of energy which means somewhat dirtier power from ISO New England and dirtier yet from Canada.
@johnrhanger Maine created very generous incentives for solar developers and it worked well (too well?). The resulting pushback from people who are seeing none of the savings from solar but feel like they’re losing farmland is massive. (Mainer, here)
@MarkFriedenbach@Robotbeat@Claudius3600 More land is used for growing corn in the US just for fuel additives than we would need for enough solar to power the country. Up in smoke every year, and unhealthy corn monocultures all over the place.
@MattYaj9@wholemars I live in the land of power outages (Maine) and have been driving EVs here for 8y. Once had a three day outage, but wasn’t an issue since I usually only charge once a week anyway. Was a bit nervous, but turned out fine. 290 mile winter range, I drive about 40mi/day.
@jasondebolt Pretty big assumption that the administration is doing this. Is there evidence for that? There is a whole bureaucracy after all. And perhaps there is a good reason?
@colinmckerrache Worth remembering that oil, gas, and fuel delivery are major users of electricity. Adding an EV adds electricity demand, but taking an ICE car off the road offsets that somewhat.
