Ayoub Bouaddi. Yup great performance. The discourse is going to be funny. Clean, elusive, little risky passes, v little forward passes. Lots Side ways, short, maybe medium.. Hardly long.
This performance by Ayoub Bouaddi was basically a Mainoo performance. Kept it ticking. Didn't make a fuss. Didn't make everything complicated.
But.. The same people that really enjoyed this performance.. Say Kobbie Mainoo doesn't do much & isn't risky enough.
Ayoub Bouaddi basically strode around doing very minimal basic things that kept it moving. Didn't even necessarily dominate. United fans see this every week.. But some say, it isn't risky enough.
Just funny to see that everyone understands the importance of these basics but just hate it for some.
Ayoub Bouaddi with a sensational performance for the entire match. The physicality & duelling to dominate Brazilβs midfield. He had the composure & press resistance to wait for the right pass to open up. And he even carried over distance. Phenomenal display as Moroccoβs 6.
Exactly. Agree.
A central midfielder that averages 50 passes a game in Zubimendi can't be classed as some "pass coded" what what.
People don't realize just how much even the "passers" have to be incredibly all action these days.
You'd misconstrue Vitinha for an all action midfielder.. But he can control possession very very well while doing all his on the ball work.
I can tell you. But you'll not respond.
Gravenbech is not what you mean.. Yet he lifted an epl title.
A season ago.
Fabinho.. Pass coded? Kobbie Mainoo is more of that player than Fabinho. I'm thinking you mean a player that gets lots of touches on the ball and actually dictates it. Fabinho was not dictating. Really smart player tho.
You can make your overall point. But also admit there's holes to the argument sometimes.
Tell me the last time a team won the PL without a pass-coded player at DM?
Even Klopp had Fabinho at 6 in 2019/20
In the words of Roy Keane, do me a favour
Mattheus Fernandes.
One of my favorite attributes as I've previously said is "tackle for possession"(I referenced Mainoo as being very good at this).
Some players tackle to stop, or tackle to dialsrupt. Other players tackle to play. Sometimes the tackle IS THE PASS.
Regaining possession with intent to play a pass or have another action in mind is great for me because I like momentum. Players who have this specific technical ability are nice.
For example.. Ugarte tackling style is disruptive. So possession is rarely under control. Likely ball bounces back or opposition.
Anyways. This is just something I really really like about some players.
Rodri, Kante, Giggs (that hook sliding tackle), Joao Neves
Westham United have been involved in completing two English sleeping giants' midfield rebuilds.
They are now giving the bigger giant [United] the midfielder with more tools. They gave the other giant, [Arsenal] the midfielder with the best of a specific tool + leader.
Interesting that it's Westham
Manchester Uniteds transfer strategy of non-world cup players might be a very little lucky yet welcomed masterstroke
1. Rested players. Footballers rarely get a rest. And some will be return their squad into the season
2. Integration into preseason and understanding ideas
3. No protracted transfer saga. "I'll wait till world cup is over to decide"
4. Time to bed into the idea that you are now a star. Sign enough autographs. Feel the way United fans overreact after preseason friendlies. Time to understand how big the assignment truly is.
5. World cup tax. No random World cup price increase.
And if I may add.. This is the kind of player Toby Collyer is trying to be. And that's how I knew he would not be good enough. Because he lacks that tiny bit of pace press resistance
Scott is peak Grealish but midfielder.
A midfielder version of Grealish. If that makes sense. Anytime you try to rash him for possession you're giving away a freekick.
I like him. Great guy for this Utd team.
Lmao. SA showed up vs the worst Mexican squad in years.. And produced the worst tactical setup ever.
Hugo Broos really struggled at Afcon. He was exposed there.
And now.. It's going to be even clearer.
You can't play that back 5 randomly as a surprise. This is not the identity that was being built.
@BradN_Utd Totally agree man. These are good players. And I promise I'll be much happier with that as midfield rebuilt than the other nonsense we've seen for years
I get you. I had a similar sentiment with Grealish with that.. He relied on it so much he'd rather go down than continue his dribble or slalom. Slowed down everything all the time. But he's a winger.
Scott is kind of not going to ground as first option. He is running away from the player he's dribbled and continuing even though the foul comes.
How I see it is.. If you try to press him.. He'll evade and you'll continue to foul him while running after him. He's only going down proper with foul that stops him. He's forward thinking.
Even Ugarte loves to try to win fouls but he does it standing still with his Butt over the ball. And loses the ball & gets no fouls.
My biggest point is. Scott is good at evading pressure
Eh. Because everytime we changed our starting XI it got much worse.
We can't change our style or even do man to man press with our current squad (Scott has been playing this way exclusively), Casemiro was not even playing DM last season.. But when he left the pitch we looked horrible. Man United need very good players on the bench too. Level drops way too much when a sub is made.
We played 40 games this season but looked tired at the beginning of every game or at random parts of games. Meaning we have no stamina in the mid.
There are many reasons. But we can't be a team that cannot change how they play because their players are too limited. I'm tired of it.
Not everyone must play.. But everyone must contribute when they play. Not plug a hole. Not be effective and offer something. It's man united. Ugarte and them piled pressure when our subs were meant to make us stable.
We put out the exact same team most weeks because our manager knows none else can be trusted. Some games at looked tired from the beginning.
We need a squad full of capable gents. Ready to start. Ready to make a positive difference.
