Before watching the "Myths About Bilingual Children" video, I didn't realize that there is fear from parents that speaking multiple languages could be unproductive for children. I've always liked the idea of my future children being able to speak multiple languages. #eng211sp20
I really enjoyed reading more about Language Acquisition. It is so interesting reading about all of the different hypotheses on how we acquire languages. #eng211sp20
I struggled a bit trying to tell the difference between semantics and pragmatics, but I now feel like I have a better understanding after this module. #eng211sp20
I think that the presentation on narrowing down your research topic was really helpful when trying to decide on a topic that's not too broad. I'm hoping that the topic I chose is narrow and specific enough. #eng211sp20
I enjoyed reading the NY Times article. It is interesting to think that certain slang terms we use today, could have had an entirely different meaning 30 years ago. #eng211sp20
Continued.. To me, that sounds like it would be easier to learn languages that are similar in both form and contact to your native language making it true that some languages are harder to learn than others. #eng211sp20
I don't know if Myth #7 is a complete myth since it does state that it is easier to learn some languages because they are "closely related linguistically and also because they have existed in close cultural contact for several centuries." #eng211sp20
@devonoyler I also feel like I am better at expressing myself through writing. So I agree that the video discussions are great practice for getting me out of my comfort zone. #eng211sp20
@HaileyLJohnson2 Hailey, I agree that technology has so much more to offer to students when it comes to teaching. I feel like as time has gone on, we have realized that every student learns differently and modern teaching methods try to satisfy all of those different learning styles. #eng211sp20
I have to disagree with Myth 8 stating that children can't speak write properly anymore. I think that modern teaching methods allow for students to learn more effectively. Technology allows for the use of a variety of teaching methods for various learning styles. #eng211sp20
I was really surprised to find out in Myth 5 that a, e, I, o, & u aren't the only vowels the English language has and that we actually have over 20! #eng211sp20
