In ʼn telefoongesprek met president Ramaphosa het hy my gevra wat ons kernprobleem met Bela is. My antwoord was dat dit die siel van ons gemeenskap aanval.

In Eugène Marais se boek, Die siel van die mier, beskryf hy hoe ʼn mierkolonie ʼn onsigbare siel het wat die miere saambind.

Afrikaanse onderwys is ons gemeenskap se siel. Ons moet dit beskerm. Dit is hoekom die Afrikaanse gemeenskap so sterk teen Bela gekant is; ons neem ons siel in beskerming.

As onderwys die siel van ons gemeenskap is, is die vraag: Wat is die hart van die Afrikaanse onderwysbedeling? Die antwoord is onderwysers.

Die Latynse woord vir skool is schola, wat niks anders is as die bymekaarkomplek van die onderwyser en die kind nie.

Dit is ʼn plek van oordrag van kennis, maar ook van waardes, kultuur en wysheid. Die onderwyser staan dus sentraal tot die vorming van ons kinders en ons gemeenskap. Onderwysers is die helde van ons gemeenskap.

Daar is egter nog ʼn element wat die siel van ons gemeenskap laat leef, naamlik ouers. Afrikaanse skole lééf deur hul ouers. Ouerbetrokkenheid en -deelname moet nooit as vanselfsprekend aanvaar word nie; dit is wat ons gemeenskap onderskei.

Ouers het tot so ʼn groot mate by ons skole betrokke geraak dat die grootste deel van Afrikaanse skole se begrotings deur ouers befonds word.

Die grootste deel van hierdie befondsing gaan aan beheerliggaamonderwysers. Die ouergemeenskap voel instinktief aan: Ons moet beheer oor die schola neem deur die onderwyserskorps te versterk.

Beheerliggaamonderwysers is dus ʼn unieke groep; ons verwys na hulle as gemeenskapsonderwysers. Hulle werk buite departementele erkenningsooreenkomste, agentskapsfooie, beleide en prosedures. Hulle word deur honderde klein werkgewers, naamlik beheerliggame, in diens geneem.

Solidariteit is ʼn gemeenskapsorganisasie. Ons is ʼn groot netwerk wat ons gemeenskap op vele vlakke beskerm, insluitend onderwys. Openbare skole neem toenemend ʼn staatskarakter aan, met Bela as die simbool van hierdie verskuiwing. Namate taal, toelating en aanstellings wegbeweeg van die gemeenskap na die staat, raak die schola los van sy wortels. Solidariteit poog om die gemeenskapskarakter van die skool te beskerm. Dit is immers openbare skole, nie staatskole nie. Die Solidariteit Onderwysernetwerk se spesifieke – maar groot – taak is om breër ondersteuning aan onderwysers te bied op totaal ander vlakke as die tradisionele vakbond.

Ons sien onsself nie as mededingers met enigiemand nie. Ons bied eerder ʼn ander benadering tot die beskerming van ons gemeenskap se siel en die hart van onderwys. Ons gaan ʼn spesifieke fokus op gemeenskapsonderwysers handhaaf. Solidariteit staan stewig aan die kant van die gemeenskap.

• Om dit te kan doen, streef ons daarna om te help om ʼn bedeling te vestig wat gemeenskapsonderwysers (beheerliggaamaanstellings) versterk en beskerm. As ons onderwysers veilig en sterk is, is ons kinders – en ons gemeenskap – ook veilig, selfs vir nóg ʼn geslag.
• Ons wil, in vennootskap met beheerliggame, help om ʼn gesonde arbeidsverhoudingebedeling vir gemeenskapsonderwysers te vestig. Ons streef daarna om met die ouergemeenskap saam te werk, deur hul beheerliggame, om beste praktyke vir aanstellings, vergoeding en beleid te vestig en te bevorder – alles hand aan hand met skoolhoofde en bestuursleiers.
• Ons doel is om alternatiewe geskilbeslegtingsmeganismes te help vestig.
• Ons wil oplossings vind vir die uitdagings wat verband hou met mediese fondse en pensioene.
• Ons wil beheerliggame ondersteun waar drakoniese rasteikens op hulle afgedwing word.
• Ons wil bydra tot die opleiding van nuwe onderwysers deur Akademia.
• Ons wil saam met die Solidariteit Skoleondersteuningsentrum (SOS) alle onderwysers toegang gee tot hulpmiddels en deurlopende opleiding.
• Ons wil skoolhoofde se hande versterk vir hul reusetaak.
• Ons gaan voortgaan om Bela en ander vorme van staatsvergrype teen te staan.

Ons gaan oor die volgende ses maande ʼn omvattende netwerk van vennootskappe, planne en aksiestappe aankondig om dit alles moontlik te maak.

Ons staan stewig in die middel van ons gemeenskap en ons sal die gemeenskap mobiliseer en fasiliteer om ons siel te beskerm – meer spesifiek die onderwyser, met ʼn fokus op gemeenskapsonderwysers. Onderwys is nie Solidariteit se taak nie, maar dit is ons taak om die gemeenskap te help om hul eie siel te beskerm. Elke ouer, elke onderwyser, elke skoolhoof en elke beheerliggaamlid het ʼn rol om te vervul. Dit is nie iemand anders se taak nie.

Ons doen ʼn beroep op die gemeenskap, beheerliggame en veral onderwysers om op ʼn groot skaal aktief by ons betrokke te raak.

Larry Ellison just asked the one question no journalist on Earth can answer.

A Wall Street Journal writer told Ellison to his face that Elon Musk doesn’t know what he’s doing.

Ellison didn’t argue. Didn’t get emotional. He just asked a question.

They have never built anything heavier than a Word document.

And they publish it with absolute certainty.

That’s the part that should disturb you. Not the criticism. The confidence behind it. The total absence of self-awareness it takes to judge disciplines you wouldn’t last a single semester in.

Musk does not operate in opinion. He operates in the physical layer of the universe where the math closes or the rocket does not come home.

His critics operate in a text editor.

He built the vehicle that carries NASA astronauts to the International Space Station. The satellite constellation delivering internet to active war zones. The EV that forced every automaker on Earth to abandon their combustion roadmap.

His loudest critics built a byline.

So why the coordinated hatred?

Because they lost the leash.

The attacks didn’t escalate because Musk got worse at engineering. They escalated because he bought X. He cracked open the algorithm. He handed the public square back to the people. And he shattered their ability to control what you’re allowed to think.

They don’t hate the engineer.

They hate that the engineer took their monopoly.

You cannot cancel a rocket. You cannot publish a hit piece on gravity. You cannot edit the laws of physics.

They own the syntax.

He owns the physics.

About R3 million in payments to police members is now under criminal investigation after those payments were allegedly motivated as being linked to protection duties for President Cyril Ramaphosa.

But here is the issue.

The members who were paid may not even have been involved in that protection work.

According to the information before me, the payments were picked up on the police finance system after concerns were raised about cash advances processed through a SAPS unit in Pretoria. The allegation is that the proper approved advance request forms, the SAPS 156 forms, were not uploaded on the POLFIN system.

Instead, a memorandum linked to protection duties for the President appears to have been used.

But the members who allegedly received the money were reportedly not listed on that memorandum.

That is where this becomes very serious.

Because if state duties linked to presidential protection were used to justify payments to members who were not actually part of that function, then this is not just sloppy administration. It points to possible fraud and a very serious abuse of internal systems.

This is also not happening in some ordinary part of the police service.

This appears to involve a highly sensitive environment where discipline, accuracy and tight financial controls should be non-negotiable.

So South Africans have every right to ask:

Who approved these payments?

Who captured them on the system?

Who signed off on the motivation?

Who checked whether the members being paid were actually assigned to those duties?

Why were the proper forms allegedly missing?

And how many other payments like this may still be sitting unnoticed in the system?

The matter has reportedly been referred to the Anti-Corruption Investigating Unit, and both internal and criminal investigations are under way.

Good.

But South Africans have seen this before. Money moves. Red flags appear. An investigation starts. Then silence. Then nobody important is held responsible.

That cannot happen here.

If these allegations are true, then public money was paid out on the back of a false or misleading justification, and the name of presidential protection was used to push it through.

That would be a disgrace.

This investigation must follow the paper trail properly. It must identify every official involved, every beneficiary, every approval, and every failure in the chain. If criminal conduct is found, then arrests must follow.

The public cannot be expected to trust SAPS while serious allegations of internal fraud keep coming from within its own ranks.

Accountability cannot end with the weakest person in the room.
