"how do I know what I don't know?"

Meanwhile, all things public health, pharma and everything around

If someone put a gun to my head and said to explain what public health is, pls tell my parents I love them

No dejo de pensar en eso de que los libros son el único lugar que nos queda sin publicidad. Las plataformas de música y series tienen, el cine tiene, hasta los museos a la salida te incitan a comprar.
Leer un libro mirando al cielo todavía es gratis.

Maybe the reason nature feels so peaceful is because nothing is trying to be anything other than what it is.

Inverters, generators, air purifiers, water filters, storage tanks…so much of what we buy is a compensation for inefficiency. On the Inefficient Economy. Today in the TOI

What do we know about health insurance in developing countries?

Dimble, Sharma & Gulati synthesise the evidence on 3 key issues: Does health insurance deliver on its promise? If so, why don’t people enrol? How do countries pay for it?

Even by the standards of a country ranking 157 of 180 nations in the World Press Freedom Index, the reaction of the authorities to the ‘Cockroach Janata Party’ is beyond extraordinary. The public response to that imaginative prank should have signalled to them a deep discontent, even distress, among young people. Instead, as The Indian Express reported, it was framed as jeopardising the country’s ‘national security’ and ‘posing a threat to the sovereignty of India.’ Decades ago, the Malaysian lawyer and poet Cecil Rajendra wrote this brilliant poem that captures the idiocy of it better than any pompous editorialising could (not that our ‘mainstream’ media would dare do even that much).

The world just noticed Mumbai's garbage mountain.

A UCLA report ranks it among the world's top 25 methane hotspots. At 50 metres, twice the height of the Gateway of India, it's been poisoning the air for years.

For thousands living in its shadow, this was never news.
@_iampratip went to find the people the report didn't name.

I am so clucking eggcited that Neion Bio is finally coming out of its shell. 🐣

Today, pharma uses Chinese hamster ovary (CHO) cells to produce biologics like Keytruda and Humira in huge stainless steel bioreactors. Merck spent $1B on a single Keytruda facility.

In early 2024, Elliot Hershberg wrote that chicken eggs are much more efficient bioreactors. They run on grain and water, produce six grams of protein per unit, and we already farm them at massive scale.

Sam Levin, who we previously backed at Melonfrost, and Dimi Kellari explored the frontiers of this research, which they could get their arms around because the cutting edge stuff is happening in a very small number of labs around the world.

They realized that the time was right to build a company that uses nature's bioreactors to produce drugs at a fraction of the cost. In today's NYT article, Sam predicts that the cost can be 1/10th or even 1/100th of the current cost, and that just 3,900 hens could meet global Humira demand.

I'm proud to back Sam, Dimi, and the Neion Bio team as they work to hatch the balk of the world's biologics and dramatically lower the cost to produce critical drugs, right here in NYC. And I'm sure they're happy that I can share my chicken puns with all of you instead of just replying to investor updates with them.

Check out what they're up to in the NYT article below.
