President Museveni wrote re-opening Nation Media Group operations (Monitor, NTV Uganda, Spark TV, KFM, Nation Couriers) in Uganda from July 28, but the army is still physically occupying the premises three days later. Staff have to work remotely. We're seeing a power play? Indications are that Museveni actually wrote the letter reopening "immediately" on July 23, but it became public only 5 days later.

Yesterday, @kizzabesigye1 was only partially conscious. He could hear but could not speak. He remains extremely weak. Doctors are still trying to determine what happened to him.
Our family received a briefing from the Mulago doctors treating KB. Yet Prison Officer Siima denied me, his next of kin, the right to join the briefing by phone. His reason? He “didn’t have permission.”

This is the arrogance of arbitrary power. Even at a patient’s bedside, basic rights and human dignity are treated as privileges to be granted or withheld. I am on my way from Rio to be with my spouse. Stand aside, Siima. No one will keep me from him.

During the ongoing hospital inspections, an Honourable Minister who will not be named for the sake of peace, asked a patient awaiting major surgery why the “lazy” hospital staff had not given him a nice, heavy breakfast before theatre. The patient, naturally, also began wondering why health workers had become so mean.

The question sounded compassionate. Medically, it was pure 𝗽𝗼𝗶𝘀𝗼𝗻.

Patients undergoing major surgery are deliberately kept fasting to reduce the risk of vomiting and inhaling stomach contents into the lungs while under anaesthesia. If a patient insists on eating a full breakfast before theatre, he may as well update his will, set his house in order and begin discussing funeral arrangements.

Had one of our renowned professors of surgery been standing nearby when that question was asked, he might now be before court answering charges of assaulting a serving whole Minister.

𝗧𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗵𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗻𝘀 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗮 𝗵𝗼𝘀𝗽𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲.

A Minister of Health would even if drugged, still know why the patient was fasting. They would know what questions to ask, which records to examine, and how to recognise a health worker who has just completed an exhausting night call and needs rest, not cameras and public humiliation.

Hospital inspections are necessary. Accountability is necessary. But let the Ministry of Health and qualified health professionals lead health-related inspections.

A Minister of Local Government has no business marching into a labour ward with cameras, confronting exposed and vulnerable mothers, as though the Minister of Health has been dismissed and the health sector reassigned to political theatre.

Final lesson: passion may attract cameras, but only expertise should direct health related inspections.

WOW okay so the most amazing thing just happened to me and I can’t help but share it with the world. American Airlines instituted a new policy where you have to pay to take a carry-on onto the plane. Which is ridiculous but off topic.
I consolidate my bags into one and they measure it and say it’s just a little too big. They proceed to charge me $50, except they only take credit card, no cash.
Since I just got back from Europe all my cards are being declined as Chase doesn’t know I’m back. They tell me that I’m going to have to miss the flight and head back to the ticket counter to pay down there.
I’m pleading, devastated after a long day of travel. Then, this man walks up and says, “How much is it?” They tell him $50 and he says “I got it.”
I’m astonished and tell him it’s fine not to worry and he hands the lady his card as the American Airlines employees stand in silence shocked by this man’s generosity. They swipe the card and he tells me to have a great flight and hop on board.
I’m crying as I write this and as I board the flight. This man was an angel. I stop him as he’s sitting in first class and try to give him my money but he just shook me off and told me to pay it forward. My heart is so happy.
There are good people in this world. Be that person for someone because I know after this I sure will be." 💕 Update: It was NFL player, Jermaine Gresham.
