A friendly reminder that the South isn’t a conservative stronghold. It’s a voter suppression stronghold. And Democratic activists are fighting in their states to fix that.
I urge Louisiana lawmakers to support @LAGovJeffLandry’s budget proposal to expand the incredibly successful GATOR school choice program.
This expansion will empower more families and students across the Pelican State to choose the best possible education.
The House Republican bill is bad for Americans.
It fails to extend the ACA tax credits. It abandons financial assistance for middle class families. It strips away protections for patients.
People are dying and it’s time my Republican colleagues take this crisis seriously.
While NCGA Republicans are schmoozing with D.C. elites, Democrats are here in N.C. ready to work on a full state budget to help your family.
That should tell you all you need to know. #ncpol#ncga
Labor Day reminds us of the power workers share.
Some of our most hard-fought rights—weekends, workplace protections, overtime, living wage—were won by American laborers coming together for the betterment of our country
Thank you for your service.
President Trump fundamentally misunderstands the role museums play in telling the story of America.
Museums are centers of preservation, culture, and speaking unapologetically to the history of our country—its greatest achievements & its darkest moments.

I just tried to make an amendment to the budget bill on the House floor that would protect against any cuts to Medicaid and SNAP.
Republicans wouldn't entertain it.
We are going to keep fighting this One Big, Ugly Bill.
The One Big, Ugly Bill is bad for North Carolina.
❌ 663,000+ NC Medicaid recipients would lose their healthcare.
❌ $500M+ in new SNAP costs that the NC would be forced to pay.
❌ 238,000 NC college students would see their student loan payments doubled or tripled.
If this budget bill passes, North Carolina will suffer.
People will lose their healthcare. Prices will go up. People will not be able to eat because SNAP is going to be demolished.
The budget bill could cost North Carolina more than $500M to keep SNAP running for our state and threatens food security for 1.4 North Carolinians on the lifesaving food security program.

Today marks a decade since the historic Obergefell v. Hodges decision that affirmed marriage equality nationwide.
Let's celebrate the love of all couples, regardless of gender, and recommit to upholding marriage equality no matter how hard they try to reverse it. #LoveWins
Today, I joined @RepDeborahRoss, @ValerieFoushee, and @RepDonDavis in a letter calling on Senate Majority Leader John Thune to eliminate the reckless cuts to Medicaid that will devastate NC's health care system.

Minnesota Speaker Melissa Hartman and her husband Mark lost their lives to an unspeakable act of political violence, while Sen. John Hoffman and his wife Yvette are in critical condition from the politically motivated shooting.
Political violence has no place in America and we must work together to bring an end to it. No one should live in fear of standing up for what they believe in.
A group of unelected, unconfirmed private citizens has no business accessing your sensitive data.
Social Security is a lifeline for millions of Americans—seniors, widows, children, disabled workers—and we cannot and will not let it be undermined.
Today, Republicans chose to place greed over our country.
Millions of people will be harmed by the reckless GOP reconciliation budget. More children will go to bed hungry. More working Americans will lose their healthcare.

I just stepped out of the Education & Workforce Committee to update you.
Republicans have put forth a bill that would be detrimental to our students. It will devastate student aid programs so students will not have the opportunity they deserve.
We’re going to fight this bill.
As a teacher of 40 years, I know how to handle bullies.
President Trump’s attempt to dismantle the Department of Education is blatantly unconstitutional & is another effort to sidestep the authority of Congress.
This will be challenged in court and, make no mistake, we will win
