🧠c’est ni plus ni moins qu’une technique de manipulation classique : « l’épouvantail et le leurre »

Quand François Bayrou propose de « supprimer deux jours fériés », il utilise ce qu’on appelle en psychologie sociale une « technique de diversion ou d’épouvantail » (parfois appelée « technique du pied dans la porte inversé », ou « leurre sacrificiel »).

🔹 Comment ça fonctionne ?

1. « On avance une proposition choquante, inacceptable »: ici, supprimer deux jours fériés. Cela provoque une réaction immédiate, des émotions fortes (colère, rejet, indignation).

2. La population se focalise sur ce point précis, se mobilise contre lui, croit mener une bataille sur ce sujet.

3. Ensuite, le gouvernement “reculera ” sur ce point (volontairement), en donnant l'impression d'avoir entendu le peuple : « Finalement, on ne supprimera qu’un jour férié… ou aucun. »

4. 👉 Et pendant ce temps, les autres « mesures injustes ou antisociales* »passent plus facilement, car elles paraissent « moins graves en comparaison ».

Exemple : allongement du temps de travail, baisse des prestations sociales, etc.

🧠 Pourquoi ça marche psychologiquement ?

« Soulagement biaisé » : les gens se disent « On a évité le pire”, donc ils acceptent l’inacceptable, pensant avoir gagné quelque chose.

Effet de contraste : après l’annonce-choc, toute autre mesure paraît plus modérée, plus acceptable.

« Syndrome de la fausse négociation » : on croit qu’un dialogue a eu lieu, qu’il y a eu un compromis, alors que « tout était prévu dès le départ »

« Légitimation d’un gouvernement illégitime » : en faisant semblant de céder, le pouvoir tente de se redonner une image démocratique et « à l’écoute », alors que la stratégie était manipulatoire dès le départ.

🔚 En résumé

Proposer l'inacceptable pour faire passer l'intolérable.

Bayrou (ou le gouvernement) agite un épouvantail (suppression de jours fériés) pour créer une fausse bataille et permettre au reste des mesures, bien plus structurelles et injustes, d’être acceptées par une population déjà épuisée, sous le choc, ou soulagée d’avoir "évité le pire".

Here is a picture of the Palestinian home I grew up in. You can see the green gate where a traditional metal key belonging to a Palestinian family is probably kept somewhere.

After talking to two researchers, they have told me this house appears in several Nakba databases, like Bethlehem University one where I got this picture. It once belonged to the Dajani family, which was never compensated for the expropriation.

I grew up in stolen Palestinian land. Literally. What a shameful way to grow up. This is why I take this issue so personally.

Apparently, you're not supposed to include Asian deaths in the story of World War II genocides. It wasn’t a Holocaust, according to the algorithm. It was a historical footnote.

Asian deaths numbered in the tens of millions at the hands of the other Axis power: Imperial Japan. Civilians, children, entire cities were systematically targeted for their race with mass village massacres, forced labor camps, biological warfare, systemic rape as torture, and human experimentation.

And yet this is almost never part of the West’s curated memorial to the genocides of World War II.

This is my family’s story—a part of history the West chooses not to tell.

This was April 9th, the day of the announcement of the 90-day pause for "liberation day" tariffs, and Trump was saying that countries were "dying to make a deal" and would do anything for it, "kissing his ass" to make deals.

Basically, the narrative was that countries were so desperate to avoid the tariffs that deals would be easy.

We're now July 7th, the eve - literally - of the 90-day deadline. So where are we?

1) Not a single actual trade "deal" was achieved. The US has reached 3 "framework" agreements with respectively China, the UK and Vietnam but even with those the US wasn't exactly negotiating from a position of strength where the other side were "ass-kissing" them (save, maybe, for the UK). In fact the framework agreement with China - by far the most consequential country - was adopted precisely because China retaliated to Trump's tariffs and banned rare earth exports, inflicting real economic damage and forcing the U.S. to quickly negotiate a face-saving framework that restored Chinese exports while reducing American tariffs.

2) Scott Bessent just admitted (https://t.co/jTviSFyK8c) that "many of these countries never even contacted us"

3) Most notably, again save for the UK, the US hasn't reached a single deal with any of its traditional allies and has instead only managed to thoroughly antagonize them. So much so that the Japanese Finance Minister has for instance threatened, for the first time ever and on national TV, to sell their holdings of US treasuries as a tool of economic warfare against the US (https://t.co/21riFvRsSU)

So basically, far from revealing, as Trump obviously seemed to believe, the strength of American economic dominance, the Liberation Day tariffs have accomplished the exact opposite.

Instead of countries begging for mercy, most just ignored him, allies turned hostile, China made him blink first by demonstrating that they could inflict real economic pain and America ends up looking weak, isolated and outmaneuvered by the very countries Trump claimed would be "kissing his ass."

As always, Trump is the great revealer and in this instance he revealed that America simply doesn't matter much trade-wise for the rest of the world, at least not enough for them to lower themselves to kiss his ass.

Fake news. Iran remains committed to the NPT and its Safeguards Agreement. In accordance with the new legislation by Majlis, sparked by the unlawful attacks against our nuclear facilities by Israel and the U.S., our cooperation with @iaeaorg will be channeled through Iran's Supreme National Security Council for obvious safety and security reasons.

Reality: To Iranians, what truly "sends a devastating message" and destroys "a diplomatic solution" is very obvious:

- Germany's explicit support for Israel's unlawful attack on Iran, including safeguarded nuclear sites, as "dirty work" carried out on behalf of the West. Germany also shamefully supported the unlawful U.S. attack against Iranian nuclear facilities, which violated international law, the NPT, and the UN Charter.

- Germany's repudiation of its JCPOA commitments by openly demanding "zero enrichment" in Iran.

Iranians were already put off by Germany's Nazi-style backing of Genocide in Gaza, and its support for Sadam’s war on Iran by providing materials for chemical weapons.

The explicit German support for the bombing of Iran has obliterated the notion that the German regime harbors anything but malice towards Iranians.

Crazy to me that over 3 years into the Ukraine war the EU still lives in the same mental Lalaland where they seek to convince China to side with them to defeat Russia. And get surprised when they're told that, no, China won't commit geopolitical suicide on their behalf.

Funnily, according to the article, Wang Yi is said to have given Kaja Kallas - the extremely russophobic former Estonian PM who's now the EU's foreign affairs chief - several "history lessons and lectures".

The conversation must have gone something like this: "Kaja, do you think we were born yesterday? Why the hell would we turn hostile to our biggest neighbor and principal partner? And then what, you give us a participation trophy and pat us on the head while you help the Americans contain us next?"

Wang Yi, still according to the article, told Kallas that China wasn't "materially supporting Russia’s war effort, financially or militarily, insisting that if it was doing so, the conflict would have ended long ago," which is something Chinese officials have now been repeating for a couple of months and which I suspect is a subtle way of saying "don't treat us like we're 'helping' Russia because if you do, we might as well help them and then you'll discover the difference between normal trade and 'here's a million drones, unlimited missiles and 2 million PLA soldiers.'"

All of this illustrates once more the terrible strategic situation the EU is in; they've somehow achieved the impressive feat of digging a hole for themselves where they're at odds with all 3 of the world's great powers. They're treated as a vassal by an increasingly aggressive Washington, they're in open conflict with Moscow and they're getting history lessons from a Chinese foreign minister who's barely hiding his contempt for their naivety.

And their answer is apparently to vassalize themselves only further to Washington, double down on the war with Moscow and ask Beijing to kindly commit geopolitical suicide on their behalf. Peak EU diplomacy...
