New details have emerged about Ukraine’s domestic Baton strike drone, according to the Technological Forces of Ukraine.
The UAV is said to feature an aircraft-type design with a straight wing and two electric motors. It is reportedly intended to strike firing positions, logistics facilities and other targets at tactical depth, at distances of up to 90 km (56 miles).
Baton can reportedly remain airborne for up to 50 minutes. Its cruising speed is said to be 105 km/h (65 mph), while its maximum speed reaches 140 km/h (87 mph). Operational altitude reportedly ranges from 150–500 m (490–1,640 ft), with a maximum altitude of 1,500 m (4,920 ft).
The drone is reportedly equipped with an autonomous terminal guidance system, allowing it to acquire a target and automatically fly toward it from up to 2 km (1.2 miles) away and at an altitude of up to 500 m (1,640 ft). An autonomous navigation system is said to enable predetermined routes and real-time positioning.
Depending on the modification, Baton reportedly supports analogue or digital video, LTE and Starlink, with the aircraft controlled by the operator via an FPV system.
Up to eight drones can reportedly be transported in a single pickup truck, while launch preparation takes around 15 minutes. The UAV is launched from a catapult and controlled via a ground station.
According to reports, Baton drones are already being used by Ukraine’s Defence Forces. In late April, the Come Back Alive Foundation reportedly transferred 592 drones of the type to Ukraine’s Defence Intelligence.

NEW: 🇷🇴 Romania is moving to strengthen protection for civilians at Bucharest’s two major airports as the drone threat moves closer to Romanian territory.
The National Company Bucharest Airports has launched a market consultation for counter-drone systems that could eventually be deployed at Henri Coandă (Otopeni) and Băneasa airports.
The systems are expected to be capable of detecting drones, tracking their flight path and, if necessary, neutralizing them. They would also need to operate day and night and in different weather conditions.
This is not yet a finalized purchase. The consultation is being used to identify the available technologies and determine what solution would be most suitable for the two airports, as well as the budget required. Companies can submit information until 9 September, after which Bucharest Airports will evaluate the proposals.
The project comes as the drone threat has moved increasingly close to Romanian territory.
Over the past days, Romanian authorities have dealt with drone-related debris along the Black Sea coast, aerial alerts near the Danube and Russian drone attacks against Ukrainian infrastructure close to Romania’s border.
Now, Romania is preparing counter-drone protection for its two main airports in the capital.
The systems would be funded from Bucharest Airports’ own resources, rather than directly from the state budget.
Millions of passengers use Bucharest’s airports every year, with Otopeni being by far the largest and busiest airport in Romania. The fact that Romania is now preparing counter-drone protection shows that authorities no longer see the drone threat as something distant, but as a risk that civilian aviation infrastructure must be ready to face.
