After today's UWEC - Mbale Zoo launch, I had the privilege of walking Hon @WanyotoLydia and Minister of State @mopsuganda to @GongodyoSidney’s final resting place.

She stood there, looked, listened, and then said the words that matter most right now, she supports the cause to get #JusticeforSydney and wants it done speedily.

Justice for Sydney is not just a family plea, it is a national one.

And to you, Guga..

I told you, I will stop at nothing to fight for you. I am still fighting. We are still fighting, and we will not rest until justice is served!

#JusticeForSydney #JusticeforGongodyo

For once,let’s snitch together.
Sydney’s killer is out there, probably working nights, thinking we’ll move on. We won’t. Uganda is big, but when we watch together, it gets small fast. Seen him? Heard him? Know the boda? Say something.

Are we looking at the next major Leader from Bugisu?

We might need voices like yours to step up and call for a fairer society for our people.

[Kanindo @ivan_magomu]

We have buried @GongodyoSidney Now we demand justice.

Some of his killers are still out there. The hooligans who set upon my brother on 5th June 2026 and took his life in a cowardly mob attack are walking free. That ends now.

We are not asking for revenge. We are asking for the LAW to do its job. In public. In open court. Where all of Uganda can watch.

We have launched a petition demanding a public mobile court trial at the very scene of the crime for every single person involved in Sydney's murder. Sign it. Share it. Make noise.

https://t.co/JA8NPKDXL3

To @UgandaPolice arrest all the perpetrators. To @DPP_Uganda prosecute them to the fullest extent of the law and seek the maximum penalty. To @Educ_SportsUg @NCSUganda @UgandaRugby your voices are needed RIGHT NOW!

Do not call it mob justice. There is no justice in what they did. Calling it justice is an insult to the word. This was MURDER. Treat it as such.

Sydney was a son, a father, a teammate, a rugby star and a future Captain of this Nation. He deserved to live. His family deserves justice. Uganda deserves better.

Sign. Share. Do not let this fade. 🙏🏾

📍MEMBERS' NOTICE: SYDNEY GONGODYO, VICTIM OF SOCIAL INJUSTICE - FALLEN AT THE HANDS OF A MOB
Elder son of Snr Advocate Gyabi Charles James; Sydney's life was claimed by the hands of an unjust mob. Young man with thriving Rugby career, nipped in his prime, his high flying star shot down by social injustice.

In his last minutes, he pleaded for mercy, but the mob was ruthless. For a minute there, he broke away from brutal mob, staggered for a few minutes, before he was pursued and executed in broad day light.

His father, devastated and in disbelief that his years of sacrifice for justice for others, didn't guarantee a just process for his own son.

A vigil shall be held today at the family home in Senior Quarters, Mbale and funeral service tomorrow 8th/06/2026 at 11am. The burial will be held on Heroes day, the 9th of June 2026 at Buweri Town Council, Sironko District. Let's mourn together...

[Kanindo @ivan_magomu]

There are moments in life when words feel too small for the weight of grief you carry. This is one of those moments.

Guga, we grew up sharing more than a rugby pitch. We shared blood, not just the blood of brothers in sport, but the deeper bond of our people, our tribe, our roots. You knew where I came from before I ever had to explain it. That kind of kinship is rare and I am broken knowing I will never stand beside you again.

As your Captain, I watched you carry yourself with a quiet dignity that made my job easier. You never needed me to push you, you pushed yourself.

Every scrum, every breakdown, every bruising collision, you gave everything. You were the kind of teammate who made the man beside you better and the dressing room feel like home.

But beyond the jersey and the titles we won together, you were simply my young brother. The laughter, long journeys and conversations that only made sense to us, I will hold those close for the rest of my days.

The Black Pirates will run out again, but there will always be a space on that field that belongs only to you, Gongodyo. No one will fill it.

Now rest well Guga. I love you ❤️

When I heard about the news of Sydney’s passing, you’re the first person I thought about @ivan_magomu.

As an OB, Elder, kinsman and Captain, this must have hit you particularly hard.

I can’t even remotely try to understand the grief you and the @piratesrugbyUG family feels.

Hang in there, Captain. And may our brother Rest in Peace.

@PoliceUg, we demand for #JusticeForGongodyo.

[KATEREGGA JULIUS @Katereggakj]

Sydney Gongogye.
I have been trying to process the sad stories sorrounding death of our brother Sydney.
It is very unfortunate to lose such a young promising life to mob justice.
My first encounter with the late was in 2019 when he joined @Makerere to do software engineering and during those orientation weeks at mitchell Hall we learnt that he was from Namilyango College and Kings College Budo for O and A level respectively.
During his stay in the University, he was part of the Rugby team, descent member of mitchelll Hall and his college and to suffer such a disgraceful death is not only painful but also unacceptable.

Killing a young father and ophaning a child and widowing a young Woman acting on half baked information is unacceptable.
We are requesting the authorities to investigate this matter to the core and bring people who ended a life full of promise to an abrupt end to book.

Rest in Peace Sydney Gongodyo.

[Mukodo @tim_kisiga]

Ohh Syd!!!. I did love you.
Till we meet again my dear friend❤️

[@Kamanah @Kamanah1]

For those of us who are proud to have passed through the gates of Makerere University, Sidney will always be remembered as one of those individuals who brought honour and distinction to our alma mater through his passion for rugby and the genuine friendships he cultivated.

[Makerere Games Union @MakerereSports]

We are heartbroken to learn of the passing of @GongodyoSidney.

He represented @MitchellHallMAK & @Makerere. He last featured for us in the 2023 #Makerere7s
