I went to the Senate floor to tell a story about Trump’s first 100 days - a story of daily, norm shattering corruption.
I laid out 40 different corrupt acts - each one alone could have taken down previous presidents.
1/ A 🧵 of my speech. People need to know this story.
I really wish reporters would stop saying that there is an effort by the Trump administration to combat antisemitism. It is quite the opposite. There is an effort to foment antisemitism.

Does President @realDonaldTrump control his administration?
New IRS commissioner this week, appointment revoked today.
Declaration of legal war against Harvard last weekend, labeled a mistake today.
Tariffs relaxed, all attributed to absence of one advisor.
Evil and incompetence are hard to disentangle.
Who is in charge?

Institutions such as Harvard, the administration’s most recent target, have vast financial resources, great prestige and broad networks of influential alumni. If they do not or cannot resist the arbitrary application of government power, who else can? Without acts of resistance, what protects the rule of law?
My column in today's @nytopinion

Preserving democracy depends on individual acts of resistance to egregious illegal government overreach. If Harvard, with all its wealth and prestige, can’t stand up for democracy who can? Harvard must follow the example of those like the Wilmer Hale law firm and reject Columbia’s path of capitulation.
Russia has kidnapped tens of thousands of Ukrainian children. Putin was indicted for this crime. Yale has a unit searching for them. Musk eliminated the funding.

Nothing will kill more children than the ongoing decimation of CDC, NIH, and USAID work to lift vaccine uptake in the US and world.
Child survival rose 75% in the last 50 years. Vaccines account for 40% of that. Measles vax alone was 60% of the benefit. https://t.co/GgQeCuAcJc
There is a young man in jail today for protesting at his college. No charges. No criminal conduct. In dictatorships, they call this “a disappearance”.
I want to tell you why this case should matter to you, even if you strongly disagree with what he said or did.
You can disagree with some (or all) of the tactics and rhetoric of the student protesters at Columbia--and I'm happy to debate this in the future--but right now this is very simple: The Trump administration is trying to deport someone for speech they don't agree with. That is all
BREAKING: A federal judge has temporarily blocked the deportation of Columbia University student activist Mahmoud Khalil, ordering a hearing on Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. at the Southern District of New York. The decision came after over a million people signed a petition calling for his freedom and as thousands marched at the New York federal building. Khalil, a permanent resident, was detained by DHS agents who stated they were revoking his green card status.
An attorney for Khalil reported “his spirits are undaunted” and that his arrest is a transparently unconstitutional targeting based on political viewpoint. His wife, who is eight months pregnant, said, “Mahmoud is my rock, … He constantly puts his needs last when it comes to helping others. … I need your help to bring Mahmoud home, so he is here beside me, holding my hand in the delivery room as we welcome our first child into this world.“
So sad for those affected. Imagine if all VC funding for a small startup lab was pulled overnight for reasons having nothing to do with the work..,. All that work, years of it, potentially wasted. Add to that the fact the work is not for profit.
NEW: Columbia has begun notifying faculty of cancelled grants.
From an internal source there:
“Grant cancellation notices flowing in now. Labs shutting down. Layoffs imminent. Faculty apoplectic at Katrina Armstrong for letting it get to this point. She has to fix this fast.”
The Columbia deportation case is bad enough on its own — but the precedent is worse. People can be deported without breaking a law because of a vague reference to foreign policy.
As a Jew I personally will feel a lot safer walking across the Columbia campus knowing that there are fewer graduate students toiling away in labs to cure cancer and drug addiction.
@CU_JewishAlumni@Columbia I am an alumni of Columbia and a Jew and I’m horrified by the arrest and disappearance of anyone for their speech. Shame on you for letting politics cloud your judgement of right and wrong . #FreeMahmoudKhalil
We are witnessing the greatest assault on campus free speech in decades--and many of the centrist/center-right commentators who once raged about "cancel culture" are completely silent
