Hudson County is trying to trick the public, saying that it has started an exit plan from the ICE contract. What would be more accurate to say is, "we will consider ending the ICE Contract when our funder--Donald Trump--leaves office at the end of 2020 or so..." Do not be fooled.

NJ counties are building budgets that rely on the unnecessarily-imprisoned bodies of primarily black and brown residents with difficult immigration status. This is immoral. Long after Donald Trump leaves office counties will have a hard time parting with this money-source.

Hudson, Essex and Bergen counties have come to rely on immorally-detained black and brown bodies, and that will be a hard commodity to say no to. It’s hard to wean ourselves off the commodities that bring in the almighty dollar, but you cannot worship both God and money.
