Thread: @HRW documented four separate incidents of #Azerbaijan's use of cluster munitions during the on-site investigation, which showed flagrant disregard for the safety of civilians. The use of cluster munitions should cease immediately https://t.co/2R5HwX8u9P
Interesting discussion hosted by @IWPR. Little optimism from @LaurenceBroers, @Richard_RSC and @eminmilli about current prospects for peace. Pessimism validated by recent uncompromising rhetoric from President #Aliyev and PM #Pashinyan. #KarabakhMonitoring https://t.co/E7GtIHL51p
Oil major @bp_plc reportedly expresses support for #Azerbaijan in its war over #Karabakh - a move that seems to be at odds with UK and EU calls for an end to hostilities and a return to negotiations. https://t.co/iSZqRhvXcA #MonitoringKarabakh
While the UK government has urged both sides in the #Karabakh conflict to return to the negotiating table, @bp_plc has reportedly expressed support for #Azerbaijan - a country in which it is a major investor. https://t.co/iSZqRhvXcA #MonitoringKarabakh
A humanising piece by @cavidaga about the plight of Azerbaijani IDPs, which highlights both their extreme frustration at the lack of progress in past peace negotiations and the destructive implications for all sides in attempting to impose a military solution in #Karabakh.
Nationalist fervour and support for #Azerbaijan's role in the conflict is reportedly high in #Baku. If #Aliyev and #Pashinyan do meet in #Moscow as they said today they are ready to do, Azerbaijan may not be especially disposed towards compromise.
I went to Baku last week. A few things: everyone I spoke to, even avowed members of the government opposition, supported Azerbaijan's role in the conflict wholeheartedly. There was a real martial ardour on the streets.
THREAD: As fighting between #Armenia and #Azerbaijan over #Karabakh continues, what do we know about what the people living in the contested territory want?
In this thread we present survey data published by @ConversationUK (1/8) #MonitoringKarabakh
When discussing who wants what, the attitudes of Azerbaijanis displaced from #Karabakh and surrounding provinces matter too. However, government restrictions make independent research impossible in #Azerbaijan.

Of course, the data from @ConversationUK only gives us a picture of how people in #Karabakh felt back in February. How positions may have shifted in the current conflict is unclear. (7/8)
Despite growing evidence, Baku and Ankara continue to deny they’ve deployed Syrian militants to help Azerbaijan in the battle for Nagorno-Karabakh. https://t.co/TYpPdzLBUj
@babayevsky With that map we want to situate where the conflict is happening for those unfamiliar with the region. You’re absolutely right, the issue of the areas surrounding NK is critical. We have content coming up about that soon. Please keep sharing your perspectives.
THREAD: #Azerbaijan and #Armenia are markedly different media environments. This is important in the context of the contradictory narratives coming out of the #Karabakh conflict: it affects the ability of journalists to verify competing claims (1/7) #MonitoringKarabakh
