THIS IS HUGE FOR PHARMACY PRACTICE IN KENYA:
Now payers (insurance and cash paying clients), collaborating healthcare professionals and investors can now easily identify compliant practices – removing risk of mischief and reliance on guesswork.

Fact Check:
Kenya is at ML2.
What has kept us at this level is over-localizing policies and guidelines on health from WHO.
As we spent time localizing local laws to suit us, our neighbors Tz did what needed to be done and are now at ML3 heading to ML4.
A little research on the advantages of having ML3 status will help you understand why as a country we need this accreditation, like yesterday.

Dr. Morangi Ongeri.
1. Removing veterinary products from KDA regulation may harm health, exports, and cause double regulation (Clause 3,Schedule 4 PHC Report, Pg. 98 & 140)
2. Granting licenses to undertrained technicians jeopardizes WHO ML3 status (Clause 39(4)-PHC Report, Pg. 119)

Cabinet Secretary for Health, Nakhumicha S. Wafula, accompanied by Principal Secretary for Public Health and Professional Standards, Mary Muthoni, convened a consultative meeting with representatives from the Pharmacy and Poisons Board and the Pharmaceutical Society of Kenya to discuss the Kenya Drugs Authority Bill currently under consideration in parliament. The meeting primarily focused on deliberations related to amendments and proposals concerning the bill.
Standards of practice in any profession must be adhered to and dispensing is not an exception.
If dispensing is a forte for PharmTechs, it doesn’t mean we throw out all the stern global regulatory standards and accommodate loopholes that may create chaos in future. Emphasis is superintending.
This is not akin to fighting with Pharmaceutical Technologists.
So two things really: Adhere to that required standard or upgrade to the same.
Time to shape up or shape out.

Dr Bethwel Libeya – Pharmacist: I haven't pursued employment in the county government because of limited slots and corruption when it comes to recruitment; I know of colleagues who have been asked for Sh. 500,000 as bribe in order to be shortlisted for interviews by county officials. #DayBreak @SamGituku
Dr Bethwel Libeya: I haven't practiced pharmacy since last year in April; therefore, attending school was a waste of investment. Self-sponsored students were paying Sh. 474,000 every year which adds up to Sh. 2.3 million over the course of five years. #DayBreak@SamGituku
Dr Bethwel Libeya – Pharmacist: We have 4,000 unemployed doctors and yet there is a deficit in the public healthcare system. If the gov’t was able to second Cuban doctors to work in counties, why is it hard to absorb the 4,000 and second them? #DayBreak@SamGituku
Enzyme-inducing Anti-Epileptic Drugs may affect hormonal contraception and may lead to contraceptive failure. This includes the commonly used Carbamazepine, Phenytoin and Phenobarbitone.
Do not assume, do a proper history taking on any contraceptive methods the patient could be on.
