J&K Bank Recruitment: Raise age bar to 34-36 years.
There are substantially positive indications that after a long pause the Jammu & Kashmir Bank Ltd has decided to fill up over 1,400 vacancies of banking associates, officers and other cadres to replenish a part of its depleting human resource. While profusely welcoming this initiative of the bank administration, thousands of the UT’s unemployed youths with superior qualifications want us to request the Bank management to enhance the upper age eligibility bar to 34-36 years. This humble submission for humanitarian consideration comes with the fact that a large number of the J&K youths have crossed 33-35 years of age and failed to get a job as very few opportunities have been notified for recruitment in the last 7-8 years. Hope the Bank administration would take a humanitarian view.

OMAR REVIVES NC'S "GREATER AUTONOMY" DEMAND AFTER 26 YEARS
For the first time in the last 26 years, the National Conference party/Government led by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today formally demanded "Restoration of Greater Autonomy" to Jammu and Kashmir. It's one step up the semiautonomous "Special Status as per Article 370 and 35-A", two steps up the demand of "Statehood" and three steps up the "Union Territory status".
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, rather than demanding the "Greater Autonomy" directly, clubbed the resolution of the demand of "Greater Autonomy", as passed unanimously with two-third majority by both Houses of the J&K Legislature in June 2000, with the two resolutions of the demand of "full Statehood" as passed by the UT Assembly in 2024 and 2026.
Omar moved the unscheduled resolution in the Assembly seeking the House submit it to the Government of India. Greater Autonomy means the pre-1953 Status in which Jammu and Kashmir had a special status, its head of State was titled as Sadr-e-Riyasat" to be elected by MLAs, head of the government was titled as "Prime Minister", J&K had its own Constitution and flag. Besides, the Government of India had control of only the portfolios of Defence, External Affairs and Communication. Initially even the Supreme Court of India and Election Commission of India had also no jurisdiction on J&K but their jurisdiction was later extended.
The Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly passed the Greater Autonomy resolution unanimously on 26 June 2000. Even the 8 MLAs of BJP voted for it. It was also passed by the Legislative Council. However, it was rejected as "unacceptable" by Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee's Cabinet in July 2000.

NHM EMPLOYEES' STRIKE IN J&K
It's a welcome development that Minister of Health & Medical Education @sakinaitoo has personally met the leaders of the National Health Mission employees and assured them redressal of their genuine grievances with regard to the glaring pay disparities between the NHM staff in J&K and other States/UTs of the country. The variance in their remunerations vis-a-vis the regular H&ME staff in J&K also appears to be in total conflict with the Indian Constitutional guarantees of equal wages for equal work. Besides that, it's also a remarkable social issue when a doctor with MBBS or MD/MS working even during nights and holidays and keeping 100s of the UTs Health centres and hospitals functional alongside the NHM nursing staff are paid less than the monthly salary of a regular Class-IV peon or chowkidar with just the qualification of a 5th pass or 8th pass certificate. Hope the Minister, who has herself come to politics and public representation from the medical field, understands and resolves all these issues with positive appreciation of facts and the working conditions of the NHM staff across J&K.
While a similar strike of the NHM staff was called off in 2019 on assurances of redressal by then Governor Satyapal Malik and some BJP leaders, yet another strike was lately deferred on 1 April 2026 following discussions and an assurance from the Ministry of Health and Medical Education Government of Jammu & Kashmir, at the Civil Secretariat, Jammu, with the expectation that the genuine issues raised by the Association would be considered sympathetically and that a concrete roadmap and time-bound mechanism for their resolution would be provided by the competent authorities. Unfortunately, as there was no follow up action, the NHM staff felt constrained to launch another strike.
In a UT where human resource in the essential health services is depleting substantially, thousands of vacancies are piling up due to retirement and other reasons and there's no proportional replenishment, the NHM staff's demands of enhancement in wages and absorption in some services needs to be dealt with positivity and compassion.
MEANWHILE, J&K Government should end adhocism and cherry picking junior favourites and fill up the senior leadership positions like Director of Health Services on basis of merit, seniority and suitability of the system, not individuals.

NC Government disemploying need-based/contractual staff, planning to engage 2,600 more people by "outsourcing"?
Unfazed by the opposition hullabaloo that the National Conference Government of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah Sahab has clandestinely engaged thousands of people by so-called "outsourcing", authorities in the UT administration have initiated a fresh plan to disengage/disemploy hundreds of the duly selected/recruited staff and pick up more than 2,600 fresh recruits by so-called "outsourcing". According to a delegation of the potential victims, they had been selected through a completely transparent process about 13 years ago by a high level Committee with proper Government mandate. The committee, as per Government Order, was constituted and headed by an officer equal in rank to Additional Chief Secretary. The notification was advertised back-to-back two times in the State’s largest circulated newspapers [ Greater Kashmir and Daily Excelsior] and every qualified candidate was given chance to appear in the competition. On the basis of their highest merit and qualifications like BSc/MSc/PhD, they were selected for "need-based arrangement" which is continuing with the life of the project and they are paid monthly remunerations ranging between ₹8,000 and 20,000. Of late, the current Government started a plan to terminate the duly selected contractual staff and decided to pick up around 2,600 new incumbents by so-called "outsourcing " through GeM. According to the delegation, officers and bureaucrats have secretly decided to "outsource" this engagement to an agency "closely linked to an officer's relative" through GeM. "Rather than enhancing our wages as per our qualifications, rather than considering our regularization as per its election manifesto and public commitments, the Government has started the process of our termination after 13 years of our contractual service. Since January this year, we are continuously trying to get an appointment with CM Sahab but his Rabita Office makes it impossible", says this delegation.
Any clarification from the Government will be taken.

Women’s privacy and dignity during medical procedures must never be compromised. The J&K govt should take immediate notice, issue clear guidelines, and ensure female patients have access to female staff for intimate procedures wherever reasonably possible.
