Just booked the final three nights of my vacation in Quebec this summer. Looking forward to supporting my friends in Canada and spending more time in your great country. I apologize in advance for my wretched French.
I think of fishing on a lake with my Grandpa, showing my kids the mountains for the first time, and the community of Ajax I’m lucky to represent.
When I see our flag, I see the people and stories that make us who we are - the true north, strong and free. 🇨🇦 (3/3)
I don't say this often, but Sunday is looking like one of those 'DO NOT TRAVEL UNLESS IT'S AN EMERGENCY' days. Near blizzard conditions across southern Ontario and Quebec. Even the risk of ice pellets and freezing rain near Lake Erie and Ontario.
The changes in the US are deeply troubling, particularly the dismantling of USAID. Looking for something positive to do in response, I am making a monthly donation to CECI (Centre d’étude et de coopération internationale). Some of their projects in Africa are threatened.
Katie is in Kenya for a month, volunteering with Farmers Helping Farmers. Today she visited Kiirua Primary School. There are 220 students from Grades 1-9. Ten percent of those students are HIV+.
In 2012, when I was the US ambassador to Russia, Putin shut down USAID inside Russia. Why? Because their work supported free markets, democracy, human rights —ie causes that threatened Putins dictatorship. Shutting down USAID is exactly what autocrats all over the world want.
Aside from the general issues about Trump‘s tariff and his economic nationalism strategy, today’s actions against Canada and Mexico are inexplicable and dangerous. 1/8
More than two years after an onboard fire caused the evacuation of the MV Holiday Island ferry during a crossing, a replacement ferry purchased by the federal government has arrived in Canadian waters. https://t.co/AjmbcVtDha
Mr. President: Instead of stealing Greenland from Denmark, I have a better idea.
In Denmark, everyone is guaranteed health care, college education is free, parents receive 1-year of paid paternity leave & workers don’t make less than $22 an hour.
Let's steal those ideas.
Honoured for the recognition from my peers with this @cjffjc tribute. I really can’t quite believe they’ve chosen me for this - brings a lot of memories to the forefront, a lifetime spent in journalism, in writing, fighting for every last word, every image, both inside newsrooms and out, in a country, a world, whose battered hearts and minds I still hope will, one day, see a better path forward. Grateful to my newsrooms @TorontoStar@globeandmail
Chris Nilan said yesterday that he won’t accept ads for alcohol or betting on his podcast. Said he thinks it would be hypocritical for a recovering addict to do that. RESPECT.
Call Of The Wilde for @Global_Montreal is another strong effort by the Canadiens vs Dallas led by Lane Hutson.
One strong team after another and the Habs are not overmatched, even taking on the Wilde Goat schedule maker.
Also, thoughts on the Rocket.
